My Review
Given To You is the third book in the Killer Next Door trilogy. Like Taken By You, Given To You picks up right where the last book left off. Roger is adamant about keeping Kate, no matter the cost. He will do anything to get her to stay with him. Anything.
What started out as a wonderful day for Kate turns into her worst nightmare. Neil sends her on a scavenger hunt, planning to propose at the end of it. But as she's getting her hair and nails done, Roger strikes. He takes out her bodyguard and kidnaps her as she's leaving the salon.
Kate knows she has two options: try and find a way to save herself and escape, or play along and hope Roger won't kill her. When they stop at a gas station, she goes to the bathroom. While attempting to write a message for help, Roger bursts in and threatens her. Knowing her only hope now is for Neil to discover what happened and try to find her, Kate decides to play along with Roger, even though the thought of being with him disgusts her.
Roger takes Kate and his son Jacob to a secluded cabin, and Kate's worst fears seem to be coming true. Not only is Neil never going to find her there, but she's going to have to be with Roger intimately.
However, Neil is smarter than Roger expects, and he manages to get a lead on where Kate might be. So he takes off, knowing he'll do whatever it takes to protect the woman of his dreams.
Now I don't want to give anything else away, but there are a lot more intense scenes as the book progresses. However, I did feel like some of it was rushed, and at other times, I thought it dragged on a little bit. I was still intrigued by what was happening and couldn't wait to see how it ended, but at the same time, I started to lose interest in certain spots and had to keep pushing through to get to the good stuff.
I felt like Neil was a bit...pushy about things in this book. Kate was a bit too accommodating, and even though I understand why they did what they did, I felt it was a bit too fast and a bit...too unrealistic for me. It was nice, but I felt a bit frustrated, I suppose.
Overall, Given To You is a good read, but I wasn't as hooked by it as I was with the first two. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars.
