“Oh, darling. You’re going to be so easy to conquer.” His finger reached under my chin and pulled my face back to meet his. “I can’t wait to strip you out of that dress and watch you crawl around my home naked. I’m going to spank that delectable ass with every damn pervertible I can find. Hairbrushes, wooden spoons, spatulas, and I might even try a damn baking sheet. That ass of yours is always going to be prettily pink and perfectly swollen while you’re under my roof.”
My name is Mark Matthews. I own half of London, and the part I don’t own, I’m working on.
Life was all going swimmingly well until Michael Redcliff entered my life, demanding that I marry his daughter. Actually, swap demand for blackmail. He’s got goods on me that I want no one else to see, so for the time being I need to be his little lapdog.
I’ll marry his daughter. I’ll give him all the status, money and power he can handle… for as long as it takes me to get a divorce. You see, I can’t renege on our little arrangement – but she can. I give her a week. One week and she’ll be screaming the place down for her legal counsel.
I am never wrong.

My Review
The Velvet Chair is the first book in the Velvet Lies series, and also coincides with the author's Pony Tales series. I wouldn't say you have to read the latter series to understand the events in The Velvet Chair, but it would probably help. I've only read the first three Pony Tales books, and so a few things referenced in The Velvet Chair were a little confusing to me. I plan on reading the rest of both series, though, so everything will make sense eventually.

The Velvet Chair tells the story of Jenny and Mark. Jenny's father has forced her to marry Mark, which makes her unhappy. She's basically trading one evil for another. Mark is also unhappy with the fact that Jenny's father has such a hold over him and can make him do something he absolutely despises. However, Mark has a plan. He can't file for divorce, but if he can get Jenny to, he'll be free.

I don't want to say too much, but The Velvet Chair is like a dark, erotic game of cat and mouse. Jenny being the mouse, even though she's anything but mousey. Mark is determined to break her, even though he's maybe, possibly starting to feel something for her. It's intense, sexy, and will have you on edge, waiting to see what might happen next.

The plot has a slow build sort of vibe (pun intended), at least to me, and it's that anticipation that keeps you turning those pages. Will Jenny cave? Will Mark get his freedom? Who will win this battle of wits?

I really liked Jenny in this story. She's tenacious, strong-willed, and determined. You can't help but cheer her on as she navigates the horror house Mark has decided to keep her in. Well, it's a horror house in her mind. To Mark, it's just home. I also liked Mark, even though he's a bit of a jerk most of the time. He has a different side to him that he's in denial about and keeps hidden from everyone. lest they think less of him or something.

The only thing that sort of detracted from the story, at least for me, was the editing errors I noticed. There was some missing punctuation in spots and wrong words used (taught instead of taut is one example). I had a paperback copy, so I'm not sure if the errors are the same in the e-book copy.

Overall, The Velvet Chair is a sexy, kinky read that will have you tingling all over as you follow Jenny and Mark through the tumultuous waters of marriage. I'd rate it 3 1/2 stars.

Author Bio:
Christina Mandara is a USA TODAY bestselling author and tends to write dark romance with lashings of kinky naughtiness. Her favourite pastime is travelling, and if it involves sun, sea and… sand then it’s all good.
In her spare time she’s usually cuddled up with a good book, exploring the countryside or baking in the kitchen. In fact, she loves her kitchen so much she’s one of few woman who wouldn’t mind being tied to it! Her first and foremost love is writing, however, and more often than not you’ll find her on a laptop spinning tales of romance, erotica or dark, paranormal fantasies.
She’s a big fan of BDSM in all of its glorious forms, and her favourite item in the toy closet (a box simply isn’t big enough) is her riding crop.
