GENRE: YA Romance

BLURB:

Sean Johnson’s life as a small-town farmhand has been nothing but predictable, but when he meets Sophia Hillingdon at the local animal sanctuary, she gets him out of an eighteen-year rut, away from the mundane existence on the farm, and a grieving, drunken father.

Sophia is the first person who understands him and makes him believe that he might get out of their small town, who tells him, he has the potential to be whoever he wants to be and do whatever he wants to do.

But as their relationship unfolds, it is the most devastating of news that will change both of them forever.

EXCERPT

I had long been a pragmatist, so I was totally unprepared for a complete abandonment of common sense and measured emotions. I spent the next few weeks in a tipsy stupor. She’d implanted herself into me; my head was full of her, making work nigh on impossible. My once day-to-day became a stop gap, a pointless stretch of time where I was not with her. And when we’d meet, we’d spend our evenings in the same spot under the willow tree, talking about our dreams. Sophia would often tell me every single detail of what she’d read the previous night, and though I hadn’t a clue what it meant, I always wanted to know more. For, in many ways, we simply enjoyed each other’s passions as much as we enjoyed each other. Above anything else, being with Sophia made me feel different about myself. I felt lighter, quick to laugh and be laughed at. Life felt easy, and I drank it in on those lazy evenings in the sun. You see, unlike most people, Sophia got more out of me than most people could in a lifetime.

.    10 Things People Don’t Know About Me

1.    I’m a massive fan of The Weeknd
I like to think I have an eclectic taste in music, and as well as enjoying bands like the Rolling Stones and the Kings of Leon; I’m also privy to a bit of T-Swift. But when the Weeknd’s three mixtapes came out in 2011 I was hooked. He’s a great writer with an impressive oeuvre and an even greater work ethic so when I saw him play in London; I’m not ashamed to admit I went a bit crazy….

2.    All my jeans are skinny fit
Aren’t skinny jeans amazing? You may get accused of looking like the fifth member of One Direction, but they’re one fashion item I just can’t seem to get enough of.
3.    I once snapped my arm in half after attempting to ride a bicycle up a flight of stairs
True story. When I was 5, I had an unwavering self-belief in my ability to overcome anything- even if meant going up a flight of steep stairs while riding a bicycle. Inevitably, I soon discovered that not even childhood could stop you from falling flat on your face and snapping your arm. The good news? I got a cool green cast that briefly made me the coolest kid in school.

4.    I don’t like mayonnaise

It’s plain nasty and is the chief destroyer of every semi-decent sandwich sold. Period.

5.    I suck at getting up early

Artists have a reputation for being terrible morning people, and that generalisation certainly applies to me. In fact, I struggle to get out of bed before 12 PM….

6.    Heartbreak is my main source of inspiration

In the words of Henry Miller: The best way to get over a woman is to turn her into literature.

7.    My favourite book is The Catcher in the Rye

Aren’t we all Holden Caulfield at one point or other in our lives?

8.    I once throw up after scuba diving off the coast of Thailand

You learn you’re good or bad at something after trying it. And having been hauled from the depths of the ocean before vomiting on the floor of the rocky boat as the midday sun destroyed my pale skin, I discovered I was unquestionably bad at scuba diving.

9.    I lost my friends on my first night holidaying in Dubrovnik, Croatia and had to sleep rough

It turns out it wasn’t too bad. I roamed the town by myself and ended up going for an early breakfast with an American traveller after a brief sleep on a seaside bench.

10.    I write a lot of top 10 lists at work
If you want a definite guide to the top 10 cat cafes in South-east Asia; I’m your man.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
