During the rise of Nazi Germany, Hagen Messer joins the Royal Air Force as
an American soldier who specializes in tracking. He’s attached to
British commandos and given a seemingly simple mission—to find a
captive and destroy a dam—but everything goes awry. Hagen’s plane
crashes into Germany’s Wehr Forest and he has to use his
extrasensory abilities to track the captive to nearby Wehr Wolff
Castle, a secret Nazi base where vile experiments are being
conducted.

Hagen and his surviving team members must sneak into the castle and devise
a way to destroy the experimental labs creating diabolical creatures.
Hagen is horrified to find Nazis and scientists with no scruples, and
at the most inconvenient time, he learns that he may be in love with
one of his teammates, an Irishman named Liam. In order to protect his
love and his friends, Hagen must feign nonchalance amidst pure
degeneracy and suspicion. Hagen soon discovers, though, that he is in
over his head.

What may not only redeem him, but also save his lover and friends, is a

to be engaged.

How much research do you do when writing a story and what
are the best sources you’ve found for giving an authentic voice to your
characters?
For any novel, whether it is supernatural, or Sci-Fi, or
horror, I have to do research. How much blood can someone lose before passing
out or dying? How fast must a vehicle travel to hit an object head-on and flip
in the air? How many lightyears away is the nearest blackhole.
It helped with Wehr Wolff Castle that many components were
fiction as I could focus more on plot as I made up locations and areas. But I
needed to stick as much as I could to the timeline of the day, make sure I used
the right weapons or uniforms – and that required research.
In most cases, I utilize the internet, but I do gather
articles and books. A person knowledgeable on the subject, like Nazi history,
is really helpful .
When I write a real historical fiction novel someday with
real places and people who really live I will likely travel to area, search
personal memoirs as well as dive into historical books of that event. I’ll need
to hire specific editors knowledgeable of that time period just to check facts.
It’ll be quite time consuming.
What’s harder, naming your characters, creating the title
for your book or the cover design process?
Naming characters is a tough one for me. I end up looking up
names to see their ancestry etiology. I also always want each character to have
their own unique name that does not sound like another character’s name, and
this takes a very intentional focus and preparation.
I also like unique names that are not common.
The most difficult process for me though is when I have some
unimportant characters that are in a scene and are about to die. They don’t really need an official name like
John or Henry, but they need something that tags them so it’s easy for the
reader to follow like “Green-Eye-Creep”, “Big-Nose”, or “Woman-Hater”.
How do you answer the question “Oh, you're an
author...what do you write?"
If the person is just plain curious: Sci-Fi and Horror
If the person is obviously gay or transgender: Gay erotica.
And I’ll add if the person keeps listening, Sci-Fi, Dark Fantasy, and
Supernatural.
If the person is being polite but not real interested: I say
lots of Zombie stuff.
What does your family think of your writing?
My mother is my biggest reader and has read almost everything
of mine. She hates prison violence so she skipped Fresh Meat. The close second
best reader is my sister who, from what I understand, reads my stuff while
she’s on the treadmill.
My dad rarely read when I was a kid but then he was a
full-time engineer at Boeing. He is now becoming the prolific reader doing spy
novels, and recently tackled Ken Follet’s Pillars
of the Earth. And if my ears didn’t deceive me last time I was home… I
think he said he was going to read my Gay Romance Erotica with a Dark Fantasy
theme, Merlin’s Rogues.
Tell us about your current work in process and what you’ve
got planned for the future.
I hold a doctorate degree in psychology and I’m licensed to
practice in Texas, and soon to be in Oregon and California. I started work with
the Department of VA and now I’m a contractor seeing veterans who are claiming
disabilities. My basic goal at this time is paying for editing costs for my
newest works.
My nonfiction book, Queer Sense, which describes how we all
form attitudes towards LGBTQA, will be published hopefully in the next year. A
big goal is to fall in line with more LGBT consultation. I foresee companies
will have a higher need to create safe working environments.
Of course, I’m always looking for the novel breakout J

The novel, Fresh Meat, recently won Dan Poynter's Global eBook Awards for
best gay fiction. This piece is more than just a book, but embraces
gay identity while deploring the hateful violence that happens in the
U.S. prison system, and across the world. The book parallels the
vicious Man-Punk prison system to the long ago abolished American
Slavery System. However, Fresh Meat is not non-fiction, but fiction,
and it's genre is best described as Supernatural Horror.

Rotville and The Zombie Squad, are two of Bryce's recent completions. The
Zombie Squad is a teen Post-Apocalyptic Thriller that recently
received Reader's Favorite 5-Stars. This novel has humor and is fast
pace, that follows four teens in New Orleans who find themselves not
only chased by psycho gangsters, but in the middle of zombocalypse.
Rotville is a new adult/ adult Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic Horror that
takes place in the near future, in a city called Rotville where
people with a rot disease are quarantined. Inside this city is the
mega prison Colleseo, where inhumane experiments are carried out on
inmates. It's also the birthplace of Dylan, a super soldier who must
fight his way out, save a couple of youths from the new deadly
mutants, and keep from being re-caught by the greedy director.

As noted, Bryce does dabble in gay fiction, and pens it under B. Bentley
Summers, though in truth, these works are meant for everyone to read.
Bryce is the founder of Queer Sense, a theory that describes how
people form attitudes. The theory provides insight into how specific
components in cultural contexts shape our beliefs and values, which
ultimately form our attitudes. The nonfiction book, QUEER SENSE: How
Are Attitudes Formed? A Revolutionary Guide for Teens, Parents,
Mental Health Professionals and Anyone Interested in Queer Theory, is
due out by 2016.
