Jack & Hyde
The Tracings Series Book 1
by Cloud S, Riser
Genre:
YA Paranormal

Double, or.... Something

For the most part of his life, Jack Anderson has been plagued by a
mysterious disease that makes him a weakling and unable to live the
normal life of a teenager. Over the summer, he is shipped off by his
parents to a special hospital located in a remote desert-like area
where he is to undergo a groundbreaking treatment. After enduring
months of questionable medical experiments performed by a group of
doctors who are supposed to help him get better but in reality are
keeping him sick on purpose all in the name of medical research, Jack
escapes from the clandestine medical facility and heads for
home.

While Jack was being experimented on against his will, a clone of himself
named Hyde was sent to his hometown as an imposter. Enter Jack’s
good friend Kayle — “The Freakazoid” — and Claire — Jack’s
longtime girlfriend — who begin to see the chinks in facade. To
complicate matters, Hyde can’t stand the sight of Claire and begins
to develop romantic feelings for Kayle.

When Jack returns home, he comes face to face with his clone and while at
first the two boys can’t stand the sight of one another, they soon
stumble upon the plan to destroy them both and become allies to fight
for their right to co-exist.

What can we expect from you in the future?
I’m currently in the process of working on my dragon-shifter series. It’s a reboot of sorts, so it’s been taking a lot of my time and energy. I also hope to start the next trilogy in my Achivan Cycle spin-off, the next book in my Musings series, and start on book three of The Tracings. On top of my projects that are brand spanking new too. I have one that is a post-apocalyptic setting inspired by “Life After People” and “Pokemon”. Yes, I know how weird that sounds, but I promise it’s a lot cooler than it sounds! I’d also love to put together my celebrity dystopian story. Usually, I have more ideas than I have time.
The hope is to catch up this fall with all of my writing so that I can have a bunch of new things to share next year. I had a lot of setbacks this year, unfortunately. Most of it was health related issues, and other uncontrollable drama. Getting back into the swing of things has been a lot more difficult than I anticipated. But some things you can always count on from me are different genre bending tales.

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?
Always! There are all kinds of side characters who have stories of their own to tell, and sometimes I do go out of my way to tell them. Usually, this comes in the form of vignettes that might appear on my blog or as freebies. Sometimes, I write little scenes involving the characters that might not be relevant to the book itself, but it’s still a piece of the character’s life. It might be a date night, or a funny random adventure. Like, what would happen if A and B ran into C at the mall looking at their embarrassing hobby. Sometimes, I’ll write about alternative versions of the story. What if A and B dated instead of A and C? What if B became a bad guy instead of a good one? That kind of thing. Those are the stories that usually make it onto my blog as well. Just be warned that they might spoil a book or two if you haven’t read all my work!

Where were you born/grew up at?
I’m born and raised in Minnesota, just outside of Minneapolis. People from out of town tend to think of Minnesota as a frozen wasteland, and I promise that's not the case! We are also a lot more than a plethora of farm country. Also, all of those stories about the weird accent are false! It’s not as obvious as the media makes it seem. There’s a lot to do and see here, so if you’ve never visited, you should give it a shot! I recommend coming late spring or early fall.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
I’m a gamer and a reader. Most of the time, I play games in my “me time” once everyone is asleep. Usually it’s a role playing game of some kind. I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan, so more often than not, that’s what’s in my console. I love to get lost in a great story, and some of those games have amazing stories to tell!
Reading is also another thing I do a lot. Most of the time, I’m listening to a book on my phone. I have a lot of great apps that I downloaded from my library that let me check things out and download them to take with me wherever I go. This works great for me because then I can tie it into my other favorite way of relaxing and that’s going for long walks. I love long walks where I get lost in my book or my music.  Plus I get a lot of great exercise which is great for mind as well as the body.

Cloud S. Riser is a Minnesota native. She has lived in Minnesota her whole
life. She will probably remain there for her whole life too. The
mother of The Squid, Skyscraper, and two cats, her life is definitely
never dull. An adventure she braves with her husband. In order to
stay sane, she creates massive amounts of fiction which she has
decided to share with the rest of the world for the simple reason of:
she is a storyteller.
