Dairy
Free and Happy! is a cute children's book that offers good advice, as
well as introduces some cute characters at the very beginning, to kids
(and their parents) when dealing with food allergies, specifically dairy
allergies.
The
audiobook is short, only about 10 minutes or so, but those 10 minutes
are packed with some really good advice, including things that seem so
simple and basic, but a lot of us tend to forget about. Like when you're
feeling down about something, asking for a hug can help bring you out
of that funk. It may not have anything to do with being dairy free, per
se, but it is definitely good advice, especially for kids.
I
really enjoyed listening to the audiobook, although I suppose having a
copy to follow along with, and perhaps see the illustrations for, would
have made it even better.
The
narrator, Sarah McNamara, had a lovely speaking voice. I love accents,
and hers was so fun to listen to. She kind of sounded similar to Emma
Watson. I liked that. She was easy to listen to, and I found her tone to
be a soothing one, which is definitely good for kids.
One
of the things I did notice was that there did seem to be pauses
between...pages, I suppose it would be. There are only four chapters, if
you will, and they moved along nicely, but chapter three has some
silence in between, which I assume are for turning pages or something
along those lines.
Overall,
I found Dairy Free and Happy! to be a nice, easy listen, and it's a
book I think kids and their parents will enjoy, especially if they're
dealing with allergies.
Neither of my
kids have allergies, thank goodness, but I do, so I can imagine how
helpful a book like this would be for younger listeners.
Good advice, cute characters at the beginning (the fruits and veggies), and overall a nice story to listen to.
I'm rating Dairy Free and Happy! four stars.
