Scarecrow, Scarecrow
Anne McFry Series Book 1
by John Kaniecki

Genre:
Horror

The Scarecrow lurks in the shadows of a young girl’s frightened mind.
Everywhere Anne McFry looks, she sees the face of a twisted demon
that haunts her past. Escaping from the horror ridden town and going
to the big city, Anne thinks she is safe from the Scarecrow. That is
until it starts popping up everywhere she looks. Befriending a young
man against her better judgement, she experiences a demented ride of
torture as the past she is running from catches up to her. The
Scarecrow is coming to collect dues, and the only payment Anne has is her soul.

Scarecrow, Scarecrow is a strange story. It's about a teenage girl who lives in small town with many secrets, and when she decides to leave, it's not without consequences.
Hopping a bus to New York, Anne thinks she'll finally be able to leave her dark past behind, but unfortunately for her, her past isn't ready to let her go.
Along her journey, she meets an interesting young man named Abraham, and she also continues to see evil in the form of a scarecrow everywhere she looks.
Can Anne outrun her past before it's too late? Can Abraham help Anne save herself from whatever evil is lurking just there in the shadows?

The story itself isn't very long. You could probably finish it in a couple of hours, give or take. I thought it was a little odd, and at times a bit confusing, but it all came together in the end. However, I was a little disappointed it wasn't as scary as I expected it to be. It's more 'Christian horror', I suppose you could call it. There are some religious undertones, but nothing that takes away from the fact that it is a horror story.

Scarecrows have always terrified me, and I guess I was expecting something a little different. The story isn't bad, but it wasn't quite my cup of tea. That being said, I did like it for what it was, but I wish it had been something that made me feel scared and horrified rather than just sort of indifferent to it all.

I didn't mind the story, and I know there are others out there who will absolutely love it, but for me, I wanted something a little more pulse-pounding and spooky.

I give Scarecrow, Scarecrow 3.5 stars.
