An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.
Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course, until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.
Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.

My Review
Wings of Flesh and Bones is the first book I've read by Cathrina Constantine, but I can tell you it won't be the last. I rather enjoyed the story, and I'd like to see more with these characters.

We've got Rogan, an orphaned teenage girl who is training to be a Gatekeeper. Gatekeepers protect Earth from other nasty beings from other dimensions. However, Rogan is a bit bored, especially because she's stuck being chaperoned every time she goes on patrol, even though none of the other orphaned kids get saddled with a babysitter.

Unfortunately, Rogan lets her frustrations get the best of her, and she ends up being kidnapped by a witch. But there's so much more to it than that. Secrets, lies, and all sorts of twists and turns start to spiral Rogan's life out of control.  And when you add in Max, her angel guardian/mentor...well, things just go from complicated to 'oh my god, what is my life right now?'

I found Wings to be a fun, exciting read. It's full of a variety of paranormal creatures, and there's so much craziness going on. I found myself anxiously flipping through the story, eager to see what would happen next, and how things would play out.

Character-wise, Rogan can be a bit frustrating and tedious at times, but she's a teenage girl with no family, no real freedom, and a desire to prove herself to others. It's understandable, but still makes you want to smack some sense into her on occasion. I do like her character, though.

Max is...well, he's Max. He's got his own agenda at times, and you can't decide if you want to love him and protect him and keep him safe, or if you'd rather throw him to the wolves and let him deal with the consequences of his actions. **Spoilers** For me, it's the former. I did like Max a lot. He's sweet in a weird, roundabout, 'I'm trying to be a good guy' sort of way. Does that make sense? Probably not. But it's midnight and I'm tired, so my thoughts are a bit all over the place right now.

As for the plot, it's fast and exciting, and will keep you on your toes. There's romance, drama, supernatural fights, and so many twists, it'll make your head spin. Yeah, it's that good.

The world building was also quite good. I got a decent sense of where Rogan and Max were at all times, and I could picture the different locations in my head while reading. Always a plus for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed Wings of Flesh and Bones, and I'm really hoping there will be more books with Max and Rogan.

I highly recommend it! 4 1/2 stars from me!
