Sixteen-year-old Blaine was a normal teenage girl. Sure, she moved around a lot, but that wasn’t completely weird, right? Then her mom tells her she’s actually from another dimension called Renault, whose inhabitants can do magic. Um, what? Suddenly, Blaine is running from an evil she barely understands. Blaine is thrust into the confusing, beautiful, and magical world of Renault with a mysterious boy she just met. There, she begins to discover her own unique abilities and her place in the universe.
My Review
The Telling is the first book in the Spinner Saga, and it's definitely an intriguing, fascinating read.
It starts off a bit fast, and at first I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but once it got going, the pace slowed down a bit, and the plot hooked me and kept me reading until the very end.
Our main character is Blaine, a 16 year old girl who thinks she's pretty normal. She moves a lot, but that's not anything out of the ordinary...or so she thinks.
Blaine starts seeing a strange, silhouetted figure wherever she is, and when she tells her mom about it, she discovers she's from another world where magic is real...and so is evil.
Blaine ends up in Renault, this other dimension, separated from her mom and hunted by someone who will stop at nothing to...well, I won't spoil it. Her only hope seems to be in trusting a strange boy named Elian. Can he keep her safe?
I really enjoyed The Telling. It's magical, it's creative, and it sort of reminded me a little of Lord of the Rings (because of the Elves, mostly). It's a quick read, and you'll find yourself torn between who to trust, who to root for, and who you want to see get their just desserts.
The world is modern, but still seems old-fashioned. They have showers and things like that, but the dialogue is very formal at times. I liked the contrast, though. It made me sort of wish I lived there. lol
The Telling is a story that will keep your curiosity piqued, and you'll be left wondering what sort of journey Blaine will end up on next.
I give it 4 stars!
