Daring Dreamer
Two best friends. Two fresh starts. Will old regrets sabotage their second chance?

Janna’s heart is heavy with grief and broken by betrayal. But as she leaves the big city for a quaint midwestern town, the future feels less frightening with her best friend, Shelby, by her side. After landing a job in the local fresh market and the attentions of a handsome architect, she may yet learn to heal old scars…
Shelby loves the position Janna secured for her and the new sense of community, but wishes small-town life wasn’t so lonely. After packing up all she could salvage from her painful past, she endures more than her fair share of bumps on the winding road to recovery. Afraid her heart may be too damaged for real love, she drowns her sorrows in drunken nights at bars.
With new heartaches around every corner, can Janna and Shelby stay true to their friendship and their dream of lasting freedom?

Author Q&A

1.       What is the first book that made you cry?
I read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott when I was a teenager. Sweet Beth’s death devastated me. As she was taking care of a family who came down with scarlet fever she contracted the deadly disease, and eventually died from the complications. I was heartbroken.
Years later, I had learned that Beth’s death paralleled Louis May Alcott’s sister, Lizzie, who also died of scarlet fever.
2.       How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
I wrote Daring Dreamer, book one in the Inspiration of Cologne series, in a year. The prequel, Destined Dreamer, took me a month to write. Yes, it’s a short story. The second book in the series, which will remain nameless at this time, has taken me six months to write and is now in my knowledgeable editor’s hands. So, if you average writing time between the three books: it’s a little over three months.
3.       How do you select the names of your characters?
First, I think about the characters’ unique personalities before I choose their names. In my mind, my characters’ names match their personalities.
I’ve also had my advanced readers’ group on Facebook pick a couple of my main characters’ names in a poll.

4.       What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?
I consider my ‘spirit animal’ to be a phoenix. I realize that some of you may not think of a phoenix as a real animal, though I’ve done research in the past and come to believe that indeed a phoenix is real in my mind. I’ve risen from the ashes (overcome the depths of despair) five times in my life and have evolved stronger each time.
5.       What are your top 5 favorite movies?
It is impossible for me to pick my top five favorite movies. All movies are unique in their own way. Although, I know you would like to know where my interests lie. Off the top of my head, I would pick: Stepmom, Cider House Rules, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Chocolat, and Something’s Gotta Give. Oh wait, I also love Philadelphia, and The Green Mile. See, I can’t pick five.
6.       If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do?
I hope I never encounter that situation.
7.       What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life?
I’ve read too many books to pick one character. I could see myself being friends with many of them.
8.       Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Patience is extremely important. Don’t doubt your writing. But most importantly,
if you think your story has been written, it hasn’t. Only you can write your story, because we’re all unique and possess our own perspectives. So, of course, I would encourage someone to write and keep writing to let the process evolve.
9.       What book do you wish you had written?
Probably many, but most importantly, I’m thrilled with the books that I have written.
10.   Tell us 10 fun facts about yourself! :)
Since you’ve read about my spirit animal, you would never guess that I was a cheerleader in high school, I’ve been parasailing, I know how to sail a thirty five foot boat (my all-time fun experience), and I’ve taken care of a tiger cub along with other wild animals. My daughter and I found ourselves stuck in the ocean when the tide came in, though how much fun is that: swim for your life. We couldn’t stop laughing when we made it to the shore. Luckily, we are both swimmers: she better than me. I love to hike, dance, and work outside in the garden. Am I an introvert? Yes, I am, though you would never know it.
