A prequel novella to the new series from USA Today’s ‘must read YA paranormal romance’ author, Christina Bauer.
One day, eighteen-year-old Thorne will be the Emperor of the Omniverse, the single being who rules countless worlds. Trouble is, his father Cole–who’s also the current Emperor–is a sadistic freak.
In fact, Cole won’t even keep his promises to the very humans who got him his throne.
Thorne won’t stand for it. He decides to travel to the human world and make good on his father’s promises. What he doesn’t count on is falling in love….
“I love how Bauer manages to add some awesome new world building to each of her books.”– Woven Magic
This new series is perfect for: fans of urban fantasy, action and adventure, cool science, evil corporations, forbidden romance and hot new classmates who may or may not be aliens.

My Review
Umbra is the second prequel novella in the Dimension Drift series, but this one is told from Thorne's POV instead of Meimi's. It does include some of the same scenes from Scythe, but there are differences in them because they're, obviously, from a different person's viewpoint.
Thorne, the youngest of three brothers and part of the royal family, ends up on Earth so he can try to help a human woman (aka Meimi's mother) find her other daughter. While on Earth, he stumbles across Meimi, and from the moment he meets her, he knows there's something special about her. Too bad their time together is so short. Now it's up to Thorne to track down Meimi and help her remember who she really is.
I really enjoyed Umbra and how it set everything up for Alien Minds (which I've already read and will be reviewing at the end of April). I liked that this story was another POV and coincided with Meimi's events from Scythe. We get a hint more backstory into Thorne's life, and we get more details into the events that happen after Meimi's story ends in Scythe.
While the book was short, and the plot was a bit quick in terms of pacing, I found myself glued to each page. There was a lot of action, and I definitely liked how it kept me on my toes. Trust me, Alien Minds is going to wow fans of these prequels, and fans of Christina's books in general.
I'm rating Umbra 4 stars. Check it out!

Author Bio:
Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.
Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.
