Author Q&A

1. What is the first book that made you cry? -
A - Little Women.  I was nine years old and sobbed at Beth’s death.  And interestingly, years later, I went into my ten-year-old daughter’s bedroom to tuck her in and kiss her goodnight only to find her sobbing at Beth’s death, too.
2. How long, on average, does it take you to write a book? -
A - It depends on how focused I am and how many other distractions and things I have going on in my life but I would say between four and six months from start to finish on average.
3. How do you select the names of your characters? -
A - sometimes they just come into my head.  Other times I find myself Googling ‘Popular girls’ names in 1990’.
4. What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be? -
A - Tiger.  Seeing tigers in the wild in India was a dream come true.
5. What are your top 5 favorite movies?
A - West Side Story, Tootsie, ET, The Kite Runner, Beaches.
6. If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do? -
A - sit quietly and wait for the end.
7. What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life? -
A - Ross Poldark
8. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? -
A - Get started!  Procrastination is the writer’s enemy.  Just chuck everything down and get the book written and then go back and edit.  But you can spend forever trying to get the first chapter perfect and never move on to the rest of the book.  And write a book you would want to read.
9. What book do you wish you had written? -
A- Fifty Shades of Grey.  I’d be living in luxurious retirement by now!!
10. Tell us 10 fun facts about yourself! :)
I opened the first ever Chinese restaurant in San Antonio, Ibiza.
I have lived in Spain, Greece and Antigua.
I have photos of myself with Idris Elba (swoon!)
I speak fluent Spanish
I am very interested in astrology.
I am petrified of heights yet loved parasailing.
I have appeared on the West End stage twice.
I have swum with dolphins.
I can tap dance.
I once had a slow dance with football legend George Best.
