Though the huge, white, huggable dog called Jo wasn’t sure at first when her mum brought home a cuddly little kitten called Vinnie, she grew to love him with time. Vinnie was loving, playful and made her laugh a lot. Because Jo didn’t want Vinnie behaving like their noisy, shouty, and greedy neighbours, she introduces him to “Liswat,” telling him the great importance of listening and learning from others and the very secret behind her being a clever dog. Does Vinnie now know the meaning of “Liswat?”

In Ginormous Jo's Secret, Jo gets a new friend named Vinnie. Vinnie is a little kitten who loves to play. But Vinnie is also young and impressionable. To keep Vinnie from being loud and rude like the neighbors, Jo has to teach him her secret: Liswat. Does Vinnie learn the ways of Jo's secret, or does he end up like the noisy neighbors next door?
I liked this story, and I thought it gave kids a good example to learn from. Instead of being like the children who live next door to Jo (selfish, rude, greedy), they should learn to be more like Jo (kind, friendly, loving, and not so loud). Instead of being demanding and whiny, learn to ask nicely and be polite. Manners go a long way.
Young readers will enjoy reading about Jo and Vinnie, and parents will appreciate the subtle messages/lessons learned within the pages of the book.

Owned by 3 dogs and a cat, Cunningham normally writes suspense thrillers. As respite from her crime novels, she creates children’s picture books, each with a theme to gently teach our precious young, and help open up conversation.
