Jupiter’s Fire

When Franco, a teenager living in the monastery at Monte Cassino in 1944 uncovers a long-lost Roman Eagle, the fabled Aquila for the Jupiter Legion, he sets in motion a desperate struggle to prevent the Nazis from using it to win the war. In a do-or-die mission, Franco and Dulcie, a teenage mountain girl, must steal the Eagle back and escape before its deadly power is unleashed. Pursued by the implacable forces of the SS they will discover not just the secrets of the Eagle but also themselves.

Author Q&A
1. What is the first book that made you cry?

Good question, I think, if memory serves (and it does sporadically) it was the Beattrix Potter story, the Tale of Samuel Whiskers, where Samuel is rolled up in dough by two rats to be eaten. Cried and was alarmed too!
2. How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
That depends, when I first started writing books we still had four children under sixteen and my wife was working full time, so the writing had to fit in around the family life.  In an ideal world, it would take me four months.
3. How do you select the names of your characters?
I like unusual names, I like names that have come from my past and in Jupiter’s fire, the four children, Franco, Dulcie, Edgardo and Constanzia are Italianized names of my children.
4. What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?
A labrador dog, either black or ginger.
5. What are your top 5 favorite movies?
Once Upon a Time in America
The Blue Max
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Singing in the Rain
Rushmore
6. If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do?
Cry.
7. What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life?
James Bond or possibly Harry Flashman
8. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
As Mark Twain put it, first attach bum to chair.
9. What book do you wish you had written?
Doctor Zhivago

I wish I had been born Italian.
