Author Q&A
1.       What is the first book that made you cry?
Black Beauty. These days I can’t read any book that features animals, unless they are friendly and never get hurt.
2.       How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
The whole process takes me up to a year to write, from research, planning, writing and editing. I try to get quicker as many authors are far more prolific, but this is what seems to work for me.

3.
How do you select the names of your characters?
The names seem to select themselves. Once I have a character in my head the name soon follows.
4.       What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?
A chocolate brown Labrador. My favourite dog and I have a couple up in doggy heaven who still walk with me in spirit, each day.
5.       What are your top 5 favorite movies?
As Good As It Gets, Little Women, The Sound of Music, Kinky Boots, The Godfather
6.       If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do?
What a great question. I’d probably give earth a good clean and bake a chocolate cake for whoever came after me.
7.       What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life?
Bertie Wooster from Jeeves and Wooster. Bertie is an affable member of the idle rich and goes to all the best places in London. He has an open invitation for country house parties, where many eccentric characters gather. I’d love to tag along with him as I love the 1920s/30s – I want to wear a flapper dress and do the Charleston whilst sipping cocktails.

8.       Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Glue your rear to a chair and start writing. A page a day is a manuscript in a few months. Just write and write. The story will come. Edit later. Read Stephen King’s ‘On Writing’ and treat it as your writing bible.
9.       What book do you wish you had written?
I love the Joy Ellis series of crime thrillers and would love to write like her. If I had my time again, I’d like to be a criminal lawyer.
10.   Tell us 5 fun facts about yourself! :)
I like trekking mountains and have crawled up a few in far flung places like China and Peru.
I love making marmalade.
I like to wild water swim.
I make brilliant blueberry vodka.
I once kissed David Walliams.
