When Adam Met Evie

When former Olympic Swimmer, Michael Adams—now Canada’s hottest reality TV star— insults his fake showbiz wife on social media, he escapes the ensuing scandal and jumps on the first flight to Australia. Desperate to experience ordinary life again—if only for a few weeks—he becomes “Adam”, just another tourist traveling through the Outback. But with a reward out for his safe return and his fame’s nasty habit of catching up with him when he least expects, he needs a better disguise… and he’s just found it.

Sweet and scruffy British backpacker, Evie Blake, is taking a year out of her busy London life. Tired of lies and liars, she’s looking for adventure to heal her broken heart. So when the hot Canadian she meets at the campground offers to be her travel partner through Western Australia’s wild Kimberley region, she grabs the chance, unaware he’s got the world out looking for him.

He’s just a down-on-his-luck traveler, right?

Author Q&A
1. What is the first book that made you cry?
I’m very sentimental so I cry at a lot of books! The first one I can remember being really moved by was A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, which I believe was first published about 75 years ago. I was about 13 years old in the late 1980s when I read it.

2. How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
When Adam Met Evie (my first novel) took me about 12 months of serious writing, but I’d been playing about with ideas and scenes for a few years before that – though probably only about 5% of them made it into the actual finished novel. My next book, The Summer of Sebastian (which I hope to release in late Summer 2020), has taken less time, but again, I’ve been playing out with ideas and scenes for a years. I’m hoping to publish 2 books a year.
3. How do you select the names of your characters?
Randomly! I changed some minor character names in When Adam Met Evie as I noticed they all started with the same letter. Newbie writer error! I go with easy flowing names and try to match the sound of them to the character’s personality.
4. What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?
A cat. A really fluffy one who purrs a lot.
5. What are your top 5 favorite movies?
It’s really hard just choosing 5 as I spent my childhood watching films and I studied Film History at university… hmmm… Here’s a selection; It Happened One Night (1934), The Naked Spur (1953), Holiday Affair (1949), Hobson’s Choice (1954), Ice Cold in Alex (1958). Ah. But then there’s the musicals… I could be here all night...
6. If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do?
Feel very sad and lonely.
7. What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life?
Anne of Green Gables. She’s independent, strong, a free-thinking, imaginative, loyal, and loves with all her heart. I think all my heroines will have traits of her.
8. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Everyone says this but it’s true; Keep going! There’s only one way your book is going to be written and that’s by planting your bottom on a chair and writing it, even when the words don’t come. This is the main advice I give to new writers in the free behind-the-scenes document I put together about how I wrote When Adam Met Evie. (Copies available via my website). My other favourite piece of advice is; write the book YOU would love to read. If you like what you’ve written, then others will too so just please yourself!
9. What book do you wish you had written?
The one that sticks out in my mind is Match Me if You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I read it in the early days of wanting to write romance and I just thought, Wow. So this is how it’s done.
10. Tell us 10 fun facts about yourself! :)
I keep chickens
I grow my own vegetables and fruit
I love digging and playing in mud
My “day job” is in TV production and I’ve appeared on TV many times over the years in some form or other – even as a pantomime horse (the front end!)
I still call my children “babies” even though they’re nearly as tall as me
I love exercising – sweaty work-outs are the best!
I love eating and am constantly planning meals to cook.
I wear socks in bed for about 10 months of the year.
I love a good thunderstorm
I’m totally in awe of beautiful summer days. I love them.

Author Bio –
Italian-born Giulia Skye spent her childhood watching classic Hollywood films and thinking up her own romantic stories. After two decades working in TV production, she knew turning those stories into novels would be much more enjoyable - and far cheaper – than turning them into films. She still keeps her hand in TV production but is at her happiest being a stay-at-home mum, spending time with her family, growing her own vegetables and conjuring up sizzling stories about sexy heroes meeting fiesty heroines who aren’t always as they at first appear.  When Adam Met Evie is her first novel, Book 1 of her “Take a Holiday” series.
