Release Date: 25 March, 2019

Twelve-year-old Chloe Rose lives a quiet, happy life in her hometown Wilmoton, but she’s haunted by the same nightmare night after night—one with guns and swords and lost fathers. When another brewing battle has her town preparing for war, Chloe’s fears are made into a reality. Promises are left unfulfilled, her family is torn apart, and she must leave her comfy life in Wilmoton behind when she and her mother move into the King’s palace. Living in a castle seems like a dream come true, like the new beginning they need, but Chloe’s not convinced. After a series of altercations, Chloe Rose is kicked out, more desperate for hope than ever. To restore what she’s lost, Chloe travels to an enchanted maze where wishes come true and fairies rule. But with evil forces working against her and her new friends, can Chloe complete the trials of the maze or will her heart’s desires be left unfulfilled?

Chloe Rose and The Enchanted Maze is a powerful story of bravery, friendship, grief, and love.

My Review
Chloe Rose and the Enchanted Maze is middle-grade fantasy novel geared more towards girls, but both genders can read and enjoy this story.
The story follows Chloe, a young girl who lives with her parents in the town of Wilmoton. But when her dad passes away during a war and her mom remarries the King, Chloe is thrust into a life she doesn't want. Add in a mean stepsister, and Chloe goes from happy to miserable and forlorn. After leaving to live with her grandmother, she learns about an enchanted maze that will grant her whatever her heart desires. Intrigued, Chloe and her friend Thyra head to the maze for an adventure they won't forget.
I have to admit, I did struggle a bit with this book. I didn't really connect with any of the characters, nor did I particularly care about any of them. While I did feel bad for Chloe, she didn't really resonate with me in any way. I suppose the character I came closest to caring about was Edith. I was glad she was able to get a bit of closure and a somewhat happy ending.
I did notice there were a lot of grammatical errors. Sometimes punctuation was missing. And the wording and dialogue was a bit strange at times. That made it hard for me to get through. There was quite a bit of telling rather than showing going on.
While the story itself is unique and has an interesting premise, it fell a bit flat for me. I would have liked more likable characters, more fleshed out world-building, etc.
I know I'm not the target audience for a book like this, but I do believe young readers might struggle a bit with this book.
3 stars from me.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
