A novel of historical fiction that turns on two key events: the discovery of a beautiful blonde woman’s body in the back seat of a burnt out SS staff car during the last days of World War II, by US Army Medical Corps Colonel Samuel Singer, and the unsealing more than four decades later of a security-taped package from Germany, bearing a secret that changes the life of New York art curator Daniel Singer, the adopted son of Colonel Singer.
As Daniel learns more about the package’s contents, he unlocks the history of three families -- one American and two German – through tumultuous times, from the end of the First World War to the rise of Adolf Hitler, the Second World War, the Holocaust, and through to three Middle East wars. Along the way, he gets entangled in the web of the Mossad, Israel’s top secret spy agency and Naomi one of its beautiful operatives, and is ultimately faced with a life-altering choice – and the opportunity to right the most heinous of wrongs.

My Journey to
Become an Author
I have always been an avid reader, especially of history, with a focus
on World War II. I’ve also travelled extensively and visited the sites of
D-Day, the Normandy landings and Leningrad, the Russian city besieged by the
Germans for three years. I had wanted to write a book since early childhood,
but didn’t get the opportunity to do so until much later in life. A business
associate of mine who was in business of publishing and selling business
newsletters and books persuaded me to write a how-to business book, which I
wrote and published under the title “How to Get Rich Doing What You Love.” That
was many years ago but the book is still available on Amazon. After the publication
of this first book I went into a lengthy hiatus from writing, being absorbed by
everyday family and business issues. Then in 2012 I picked up my pen again and
started writing a novel, a family saga following the relationship between a
grandfather and his granddaughter through the tumultuous years of the Second
World War. Coming up with a premise and a plot and crafting a manuscript is not
an easy assignment. However I loved the thought of putting my ideas on paper
and letting others share in it. Over the next couple of years I picked up this
manuscript, wrote a little, then put it down again. I ran into more writer’s
blocks than I care to recall. Then a trip to Berlin in 2015 changed everything.
It was here that I came up with the concept for “Between These Walls.” Now that
I’ve finished the manuscript, gotten it published and embarked on the marketing phase to promote my
novel, I know that all the late nights, anxiety and struggles to come up with
something that people would read and like, are well worth it. I tried the
traditional publishing route but found myself turned down by a hundred agents.
So I decided to self-publish which in retrospect was the right move. I would
advise other first-time writers and novelists to stay true to their craft and
not be discouraged by early failures, but to persevere and keep writing and
querying. Success is always just around the next corner.
