Little Milly and the Great Lakes

GENRE: Children's

BLURB:
Kelly knew Little Milly Lake as Grandma Mill McInenly.
The usually serious Mildred would occasionally surprise her granddaughter with tales of the fun
and mischief that she and her five older sisters found growing up in the Maritimes in the early 1900s.
The combination of little money or supervision, and a notoriously grumpy father,
made for simple stories with just the right blend of silly and sweet.
Little Milly and the Great Lakes is Kelly's first creative writing endeavor...
she has been distracted by Little Mateo and Little Lucas.

EXCERPT
Early one morning, the gulls were still sleeping,
The Sergeant was out, and the girls’ tea was steeping,
When from the washroom came an animal’s howl:
Bess flung the door open, her rump in a towel,
“There’s a boil on my bottom and boy does it hurt!”
Marj warned, “If Pa finds out there will be no dessert!”

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
1. What would you consider to be your Kryptonite as an author?
Self-doubt. To keep writing,
I have to remind myself that not everyone will enjoy or appreciate my writing,
but that as long as I like it and my kids like it, it has value… any other
families who pick up a story too are just a huge bonus. The act of writing, not
selling, is the adventure.
2. If you had to
describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
The name Kelly means
Aggressive – Lively – Warrior… check, check and check!
3. What’s one
movie you like recommending to others?
Harold and Maude! It is such
a special blend of funny/tragic, shocking/sweet… and the soundtrack is
beautiful. Produced in 1971, but the themes are still relevant today… possibly
now more than ever
4. If you could
own any animal as a pet, what would it be?
A chinchilla. For one, I saw
one while on holiday in Mexico and it was the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Secondly, it would make me an absolute hero to my kids who have been asking for
one for years! I also suspect it would make a pretty agreeable writing partner.
5. Have you
ever met anyone famous?
Not exactly, but I went to
high school with Alanis Morrisette and I rode an elevator with James Woods last
year (I played it cool
).
