Author Interview
1. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Start writing now! Keep a journal and write something every day - a quote, poem, thought, anything. Read a lot and write a lot!

2. Favorite childhood memory involving books?
Sitting outside in the summer under a big oak tree in our backyard and reading a book. I loved feeling the warm breeze and the grass on my bare feet while I’d read my favorite books. It made me feel like I could escape even further into that book.
3. What fantastical fictional world would you want to live in (if any) given the chance?

Narnia for sure!
4. Did you want to be an author when you grew up?
Yes, I did!
5. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Spirited, compassionate & positive.
6. What is your most unusual writing quirk?
Always have a bag of semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips on hand mixed with cheese-its.

7. If you could own any animal as a pet, what would it be?
I have it - it’s a hedgehog! Other than that a baby goat would be fun.
8. What is the first book that made you cry?
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
9. How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
About 3 months.
10. How do you select the names of your characters?I think about where my story is taking place and find names that would be realistic for that place. For example, much of my recent book, Buried Secrets takes place in Italy and so the names I picked had to be Italian names. But I wanted to choose names that sounded strong.  I also like names that sound interesting but not too unusual. Pinterest is good for finding things like that.
11. What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?A dog, probably a husky or lab/shepherd mix.
12. What are your top 5 favorite movies?
So many good ones but off the top of my head: Braveheart, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
13. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?Yes. Write something every day. Have a goal of what you want to write like a page or a chapter a day or for how long you’ll write - start small and build it up. Also, find a writing partner or a small critique group. Don’t be afraid to share your writing and get feedback - even if it’s family or a friend at first - that’s how your writing will grow.

14. Tell us 10 fun facts about yourself!1. I own a hedgehog named Penelope Pricklehog
2. I teach 5th grade
3. I do yoga every day
4. I need to eat something chocolate every day
5. I once held a baby alligator
6. I like going on graveyard tours.
7. I’ve been way up high on the farthest extension of a firetruck ladder.
8. I love 80’s rock & pop.
9. I love interior decorating.
10. I love gardening.
15. What is your favorite genre to read?
Mystery/suspense/thriller and some fantasies & women’s fiction.
