Author Q&A
Author Q&A
1.What would you consider to be your Kryptonite as an
author?
My Kryptonite is social media, can’t live without it, can’t
work while it’s there beckoning me to browse on it!
2. If you could tell your younger writing self anything,
what would it be?
Write the book, write everything down that is in your head,
and just keep going.
3. Favorite childhood memory involving books?
Going on occasional shopping trips to our nearest big city
and being allowed into a huge bookshop before going home where we could choose
one book to buy. It was nearly always Enid Blyton by the way.
4. If you could dine with any literary character, who would
it be and why?
It would have to be Sherlock Holmes, but only in his Robert
Downey Jr incarnation. I’d like to sit opposite him!
5. What fantastical fictional world would you want to live
in (if any) given the chance?
Harry Potter’s world, imagine being a student at Hogwarts,
in fact now I’ve thought about it, I’d like to be Hermione!
6. Did you want to be an author when you grew up?
Yes, then life got in the way. But hopefully I’m making up
for that now.
7. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what
would they be?
Bookish, quiet, thoughtful.
8. What is your most unusual writing quirk?
I think the most unusual thing about my writing is that I
write in lots of different genres, and I’ve never had writers block.
9. What’s one movie you like recommending to others?
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – that scene with the
squirrel, it takes a lot to make me laugh but OMG!
10. If you could own any animal as a pet, what would it be?
A wolf (Game of thrones style)
11. Have you ever met anyone famous?
No one I been that excited about meeting (sorry!).
12. How long, on average, does it take you to write
a book?It varies. I can write things in a few weeks
depending on length. The novel I’m finishing now has taken me 12 years and 1
month. I’ve wrote more of it in the last month that I did over the last 12
years when I wasted time wondering if that was right or if I was explaining
something in the best way. Lots of time wasted due to lack of confidence, I
think. In the last month I just wrote and trusted myself.
13. How do you select the names of your
characters? The names just come to me as I’m writing. I
occasionally research a name for my period writing but apart from that they
just come with the character.
14. What creature do you consider your
"spirit animal" to be?A wolf (see above), a loner.
15. What are your top 5 favorite movies?Any Indiana Jones, any Jurassic Park, Sherlock
Holmes (with R Downey jr), Love Actually, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
16. If you were the last person on Earth, what
would you do?Finish reading my ‘to-read’ pile of books.
17. What fictional character would you want to be
friends with in real life?Elizabeth Bennet.
18. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?Just keep writing.
19. What book do you wish you had written?Harry Potter.
20. If you could live in any time period, what
would it be and why?High medieval just to experience it first-hand, but
not for very long, I don’t think it would be very pleasant.
21. What is your favorite genre to read?Medieval fiction.
Having written all of my life, I decided to self-publish my writing when I turned 50. I have published four books since then. Two are collections of short stories; Dark & Fluffy; Dark & Fluffy II and 500 Words, which is flash fiction. My latest book The Rue Stone is a fantasy novella.
My passion is medieval fiction, and I am working on my first novel The Little Servant - The Wait's Son, set in the 12th century, in Lincoln, where I live.
All four books are available on Amazon.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
