My Review
This collection of stories is actually pretty impressive. There are a lot of top-tier authors within these pages, and each story brings something different while still revolving around the idea that 'nothing good happens after midnight'. There are 13 stories in all, and while there were a couple that didn't quite resonate with me, I found I enjoyed many of the stories. And I think my favorite might actually be Cell Phone Intolerant. That story highly amused me, and I found a kindred spirit in Ed. Granted, I'm not that old, but I've always had more of an "old soul" vibe about me (at least that's what I've been told). And while I am one of those people who has a cell phone in hand while walking, it's more about feeling a sense of safety and security than being obnoxious and ignoring others/almost walking into people (like the people in the story who Ed gets annoyed with). Ed's intolerance does come with a side dish of karma, though.
Another story I liked, but was kind of horrified by, was Gone Forever. It's a bit brutal, but it's also a fascinating read. It definitely goes in a direction I wasn't quite expecting.
Midnight in the Garden of Death is also a really good story. It reminded me a little of when I was younger, and I think a lot of readers might connect with this one.
And if you're a fan of retellings, there's a unique Cinderella story in this collection that is nothing like what most readers are familiar with.
Overall, a solid collection if stories that will thrill readers and keep them on the edge. I, personally, found myself eagerly flipping through the pages, curious to see how each story would play out. And as a fan of short stories, I can say this collection definitely doesn't disappoint. There's something for everyone here. Check it out!
4 stars!
