The SCION SAGA SERIES is an exhilarating young adult series of adversity, bravery, and determination. The adventure primarily chronicles the lives of 16-year-olds Adam and Carly, who embark on a familial adventure, discovering their supernatural abilities are accompanied by the direst of consequences. These teens are Descendants of extinct bloodlines, easily identifiable by their glowing Limbal Rings. They're under constant threat of extermination at the hands of The Iksha -- an elite, but a murderous group of scientists. The series includes a veritable myriad of familial situations that create stronger bonds between the Bloodlines as they band together to fight for their existence.

My Review
Opaque is the first book in the Scion Saga, and I have to say I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into when I first started the book. It definitely sucks you in right away, though, and once you start reading, you don't want to stop.
I found the book to be intriguing and unique. Adam was a bit odd, but that's to be expected, all things considered. He's struggling to be normal in a world where being different is frowned upon. He's a loner who considers his classmates and teachers "animals", and he prefers to be left alone. Until new girl Carly shows up. That's when everything changes.
The story does have some darker moments, like the memory that Adam has of his time with Teri (I believe that was her name). Even though he feels guilt about what he did, or didn't do, the implication that something monstrous was going to take place is still there. It's definitely a scene that makes you realize just how "different" Adam really is.
The overall plot is relatively easy to follow along with, and it's paced nicely without dragging in spots. I found myself curious about Adam and Carly almost instantly. That's always a good thing.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the story, and I'm looking forward to continuing the series.
4 stars.
