Abby Nicholson used to love Christmas. Until she didn’t.
After leaving Winter Glen, the small town famous for its Christmas celebration and her family’s greeting card company, Abby is forced to return to the home she left behind when the unexpected passing of her father thrusts the business into her hands.

Author Interview
1. If you could tell
your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Don’t worry what anyone else says, but all those stories you
tell, all those crazy thoughts in your head, all that make-believe and making
things up is going to pay off.
2. Favorite childhood
memory involving books?
Reading The Swiss Family Robinson with my uncle at
Christmastime. I was very young and it was the first “big book” I read. I
remember sitting on the floor, next to the Christmas tree, reading it out loud
to my uncle who sat next to the fireplace. Books and Christmas. “These are a
few of my favorite things…”
3. Did you want to be
an author when you grew up?
I knew that I wanted to be a writer. I was always writing
little stories and little movie scripts. Now, I am happy that I write bigger
stories and bigger movie scripts.
4. What is your most
unusual writing quirk?
I love to eat dark chocolate covered raisins when I work.
5. If you could own
any animal as a pet, what would it be?
If I answer this my cat, Kailey, is going to get very
upset.
6. What is the first
book that made you cry?
I can’t say I remember the first book, but one
I remember vividly that made me cry is “The Yearling.” It is so impactful and emotional as the story
navigates family, love, loss, and growing up.
7. How long, on
average, does it take you to write a book?
It varies, depending on the story and also if I
have another project going. Usually a few months to get the first draft
done. I like to joke that my agent can
answer that question simply: “Too long.”
8. How do you select
the names of your characters?
I think of people I know, or names I have heard
that struck me as interesting or unique. There have been times I like to think
of a character’s traits or qualities and see what names are associated with
those. I also have movie posters in my office so sometimes I glance at the
credits and combine things to make a name. It’s never completely random,
though. I always want the name to feel right. To feel like it belongs to that
person for a reason.
9. What are your top
5 favorite movies?
There are so many movies I love, in so many
genres, so I’ll list a few*:
Holiday: A Christmas Story
Musical: Grease
Sci-fi/Fantasy: Superman
Horror: A Nightmare on Elm Street
Drama: Sunset Boulevard

10. Do you have any
advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t give up. Don’t be discouraged. Keep
writing. Also, write the story in your heart, not the one in someone else’s
head. Don’t cancel your creativity because you fear someone won’t like what you
are writing.
