Author Interview
1. WHAT CAUSES THE SKIN
TO AGE PREMATURELY?
Stress plays a large part in the way we age. If you are stressed, so is your skin.
But skin stress comes in a number of different forms.
Something that is not commonly understood is that our skin is impacted on a daily basis by environmental toxins and lifestyle elements that age it prematurely.
Environmental elements that damage the skin include exposure to sun, pollution, heating and cooling.
Lifestyle elements that damage the skin include the chemicals in food, the toxins in household products, the chemicals in personal care products, (such as shampoo and soap), smoking, alcohol and sugar consumption.
And then there is the stress we feel that causes the stress hormone cortisol to flood through our bodies, creating skin stress and premature skin aging if our stress levels remain constantly high. Feeling stressed is directly linked to collagen damage and skin aging, which is why I call cortisol the wrinkle-causing hormone and explains why we ultimately cannot separate how we look from how we feel.
In combination, all of these elements stress the skin, causing it to age prematurely.
2. HOW IS THE BEST WAY
TO COUNTERACT IT?
To keep ourselves looking our best over time we need to de-stress the skin on a daily basis so it ages less! This can be done by eating skin boosting vitamins and minerals and topically feeding the skin the nutrients it needs to counteract skin stress and rebuild and protect collagen and elastin, which keeps the skin looking young and vital.
We also need to do everything we can to feel good on a daily basis, as good feelings support great looking skin. When we feel good we look good!
3. WHAT NUTRIENTS CAN
BE PROVIDED TO THE SKIN VIA TOPICAL TREATMENTS AND DO THEY WORK?
Research has shown that nutrients can be absorbed effectively through the skin via topical treatments. This means that your beauty routine will not only give you great skin, but can assist in absorbing some of the necessary nutrients for overall health.
Not surprisingly many foods contain the key regenerative ingredients found in the most expensive skin creams. These include Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Retin A, powerful antioxidants, collagen producing Vitamin C and skin healing Vitamin E.
So while nutrition fuels, transforms and can heal our bodies, choosing what we use topically can do the same for our skin.
This recipe from Face Value is a great one for rebooting your skin and protecting it against premature skin aging.
DEEP
ACTIVE RECHARGING THERAPY
TO
PREVENT PREMATURE SKIN AGING
The essence of beauty is not something that we find, it is something that we experience through the way we live, love, think and feel.

Banana, lemon and grape
recharging age treatment
· Take several seedless grapes, cut in half and rub over the entire face. Let it dry.
· Mash a quarter of a banana until very creamy and squeeze half a lemon into the paste. Mix well, spread over the face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water, followed by a dash of cold.
· Afterwards apply moisturiser to damp skin.
THE SKIN SECRET: This secret delivers a powerful skin regeneration treatment through Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Vitamin C and antioxidants, which assist in the stimulation of collagen production.
BANANA:
The
antioxidants and nutrients in bananas help to restore collagen in your skin.
They also have antibacterial properties and can be applied to the face mashed
with lemon (stops the banana going brown) or with yoghurt, honey, egg or milk
for a range of benefits that assist in maintaining the health of the skin.
GRAPES:
Grapes
are high in AHA (skin renewal) and Vitamin C (collagen building) so they are
powerful for use as a skin exfoliant, for oil reduction on the skin.
LEMON:
Lemons
are rich in AHA and Vitamin C (collagen building) and a range of nutrients that
has ensured its use as a rejuvenating beauty product for hundreds of years. Its
versatility as a topical ingredient means it can be used in cleansers, toners,
skin lighteners, face masks and scrubs. It is naturally antiseptic and has been
used successfully to treat fine lines, scars and pigmentation of every kind.
4. WHY DO YOU INCLUDE
QUOTES ABOUT FEELING GOOD IN ALL OF YOUR SKINCARE BOOKS?
The concept of beauty has become stressful. There is too much pressure placed on how we must look and not enough on how we feel in our own skin.
Real beauty comes from within and while we all want to look our best, what we bring to the world is far greater than how we look.
I get enormous amounts of feedback on the quotes. People tell me that they love the information that the books provide and the results they get, but they also enjoy a positive message or affirmation about where our real beauty comes from.
This is why whenever I am sharing knowledge on how to counteract premature aging and transform skin, I think it is important to keep in mind that the best parts of who we are have nothing to do with how we look. This takes the pressure off and enables people to enjoy the truth beauty and who they are.
The essence of our beauty does not lie in our physical characteristics
but
in the heart of our character.

A
MESSAGE FOR THE READER
While all ingredients are skin-friendly,
everyone has unique skin that reacts differently. It is recommended with all
treatments that a patch test be performed on a small non-sensitive area of
skin, such as your hand, prior to using. If redness, a rash or any form of
irritation occurs, wash off immediately and discontinue use.
As a general rule, ensure that your work
area and utensils are clean before preparing any treatments, and that
ingredients are fresh and your hands are washed. This will ensure the freshness
and quality of each treatment.
Please note that treatments that contain
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Retinol (Vitamin A) can cause the skin to be sun
sensitive, so always apply sun protection.
