Pierre the Peacock is delightfully illustrated with a valuable message. It is about acceptance, friendship and a valuable lesson in how we should treat people. Come with us as we meet Pierre, a peacock who thinks that he will get friends just from his pretty looks. When he meets Jerry, a colorblind little boy, he teaches Pierre that what matters is how you treat people, not what you look like. A lesson for all of us!
My Review
Pierre the Peacock is a cute children's book with adorable illustrations. And it has a good message for kids within the pages.
The story is about Pierre, a very braggadocious peacock, who goes around telling everyone he meets how beautiful he is. But the other creatures he comes into contact with don't like Pierre and his arrogant attitude. Pierre, however, doesn't seem to realize he's doing anything wrong, and he can't seem to understand why he has no friends. It isn't until Pierre meets Jerry, a colorblind little boy, that he realizes beauty is only skin deep.
I found this to be a quick, easy read. It's heartwarming and sweet at its core, and it shows kids that being friends with someone based on their attitude and how they treat others is better than being friends with someone just because they're pretty. Even if someone is lauded as the most beautiful person in the world, if they're shallow and self-absorbed, they'll put people off and only draw other negative, fake people to their circle of friends. Don't be like Pierre at the beginning of the story. Be like Pierre after he befriends Jerry. That's the kind of person we should all strive to be.
5 stars!
