Author Q&A
1. What would you
consider to be your Kryptonite as an author?
Something interesting on tv!
2. If you could tell
your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
To never give up and write something, anything, every day because you
never know when it might be useful.
3. If you could dine
with any literary character, who would it be and why?
Ford Prefect from The Hitchhikers
Guide to the Galaxy, (especially if it took place at the Restaurant at the
End of the Universe!) because I want to get my hands on the guidebook itself.
4. What fantastical
fictional world would you want to live in (if any) given the chance?
The Star Wars universe, but only if I could
be a Jedi!
5. Did you want to be
an author when you grew up?
An archaeologist was my dream job.
6. If you had to
describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Determined, empathetic and quirky. I asked my friends this and got the
usual rude answers!
7. Have you ever met
anyone famous?
I’ve danced the cha cha cha with Danny
John-Jules (Red Dwarf, Death in Paradise and Strictly) but that’s about it!
Philip Pullman’s
His Dark Materials made me cry almost
all the way through, the last installment was heartbreaking and I can never
read them again. I still have no idea why they affected me so profoundly.
9. How long, on
average, does it take you to write a book?
Far
too long! This one, Escaping from the
Shadows, took about 9 months to do all the re-writing as the story changed
dramatically from the original concept many years ago.
10. What are your top
5 favorite movies?
Rogue One; The Mummy
(Brendan Fraser version); The Empire Strikes Back; Romancing the Stone and
Guardians of the Galaxy.
11. What fictional
character would you want to be friends with in real life?
Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice.
12. Do you have any
advice for aspiring writers?
Write what
you want and what you feel. If you are getting pleasure from your writing then
don’t let anyone put you off. You never know where it might lead.
13. What book do you
wish you had written?
Any Georgette
Heyer historical romance – she is probably my all-time favourite author.
14. If you could
live in any time period, what would it be and why?
I don’t think I would want to
live in another time period too far back, maybe the 1960’s to experience that
London buzz. I would like to visit Regency London for a few days as I really
love Georgette Heyer’s novels and it would be fascinating to see London then.
Author Bio
C L Tustin was born and raised in the East
Midlands but spent her teenage years in Sydney, Australia. She has sung twice
at the Sydney Opera House and also appeared singing live on Australian national
television. Returning to the UK in 1989 via Singapore and the Middle East the
travel bug has never left her and she has explored countries and cities across
the world.
C L Tustin began writing at the age of 11
when she didn’t see why James Bond had to be a man and created a spy code named
The Cat with 10 planned adventures. Her first published novel “Escaping from
the Shadows” is a romance with an undertone of threat set in the social media
free world of 1990. She is currently working on editing and completing her
second romance “Desert Rose” whilst writing a brand new story “Flower of
Death”. Future projects already planned include two Regency romances and a
sci-fi thriller.
Whilst raising her son C L Tustin continued
to balance writing and work with completing a BSc(Hons) in Science and a
MSc(Merit) in Earth Science with the Open University. This was a most rewarding
experience despite the long hours and hard work involved.
C L Tustin has worked for two major banks,
a tool company, the MOD and the NHS. She has completed 3 Thames Bridges walking
challenges for charity, volunteers for Butterfly Conservation and passionately
supports rescue dogs. C L Tustin lives currently with her rescued 15 year old
Jack Russell Terrier and a diverse collection of books and sci-fi memorabilia.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
