My Review
Journey to a New Earth is an adorable children's book with cute illustrations that will make kids smile.
The story follows Penelope Panda and Kobi Koala as they discover a new Earth. Kobi Koala's home has been destroyed by fire, so she tags along with Penelope Panda to find a new home. Together, they discover a magical tree that tells them all life is connected in some way.
It's a story of caring and friendship, and of preservation of the Earth. It seems like the story hinted at the Australian wildfires, and that was why Kobi had lost her home/friends, but it didn't actually touch on that topic. I think maybe older kids will pick up on that as well, but younger children will just be immersed in the magical paradise that Penelope lives in. I also think some readers who may be more spiritual may pick up a different message (that Penelope lives in a "heaven" of some sort, and that's where Kobi ends up after the fire.
Regardless of what message readers choose to reflect on, the story is a good way to discuss real-world things with children. While younger readers (ages 3-7) may not care about anything other than the bright and colorful illustrations and overall story, older readers (8+) may be more inclined to have a conversation about the story after it's done.
I'd give this one 4 stars.
