My Review

It All Started in Africa is a wonderful children's book that has lovely illustrations and a melodic, rhyming scheme. It's repetitive, which makes it easy to read for younger children, but older children will find the overall story to be educational and fascinating. They may even find the ending a bit surprising .
I do think the book is a good way to open discussion with older children about history, slavery, freedom/rights, and even different cultures. While younger readers may not quite understand all of that yet, the story is still a helpful introduction for them to come back to when they're older.
I personally thought the glossary and the discussion questions in the back of the book were a nice touch.
Children of all ages and races will benefit from giving this book a read. Parents, educators, guardians... pick this one up for your young reader today!
5 stars!
