 My Review
Does Grandma Remember Me? is a wonderful children's book that will help young readers understand a little more about dementia. It's a lovely little story that showcases a young girl realizing her grandma is different and seems to have days where she struggles, and her way of trying to cope with the change. She remembers how her grandma used to be, and she uses those memories to be more compassionate and understanding.
I really connected to this book, even as an adult, because my grandma (who passed away 14 years ago) started struggling with memory loss months before she passed away (from pneumonia). There were days where she didn't even know who she was talking to or where she was, and it made me sad to see someone who had always been so vibrant and full of life suffering in such a way. And while I was in my early twenties when she passed, it was still hard to deal with. I can't imagine being a young child who doesn't understand why their grandparent is different all of a sudden. But with this book, I do think it will make it easier for parents to have a conversation with their young readers about dementia and the changes it can cause in a loved one.
The illustrations were lovely, and they really brought the story to life. The story itself is easy to read, and it makes understanding such a difficult subject easier for younger readers.
I would recommend to this all parents of young readers.
5 stars!

Meet the Author:
Evita's passion is assisting the elderly, especially those living with dementia. Her mission is to help people age in the manner they envision for themselves and not through the lens of others. She works to provide data and resources to assist elders in effectively aging-in-place and equips their families and friends to support their loved ones amidst uncertainty. Working in the elder care field as a licensed nursing home administrator, senior living marketing professional, and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Evita witnesses both elders and families make tough decisions. Some of those decisions result in despair, while others result in healing. The key to enabling elders to live life to its fullest is to help them find their voices and exercise their right to choose.

Evita collaborates with family and friends to ensure that her mother, who lives with dementia, and her father, recently diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, maintain their voices and make well-informed choices as their disease progresses.
