Bobos Babes
Bobos Babes Adventures: The Missing Egg is a cute children's book about an angel, a fairy, and a princess who help a daddy swan find his missing egg before Mommy Swan returns to the nest.
The "Babes" in this story are based on the author's kiddos, which I thought was sweet. The story also showcases how working together and using teamwork can be a good thing. It's a fun little story with a delightful friendship between Daddy Swan and his "boys" (aka a rabbit, a turtle, and an armadillo), and a heartwarming sisterly bond. Also, chocolate cake.
I thought this was a quick, easy read. The story is engaging, and young readers will enjoy helping Bobos Babes uncover the mystery of the missing egg.
The illustrations are bright and colorful, and they draw the eye. The story pops thanks to the lovely illustrations.
Keeping Our Loved Ones Alive for My Children
When I started writing
the Bobos Babes Adventures book series, initially, I was trying to entertain
my children during the pandemic.
We left our downtown condo in Chicago and escaped to my mother’s home in Northwest Indiana. I transformed a portion of my mother’s unfinished basement into “Bobos Babes World” with fluffy pink carpet, a reading
area, a doll area, and an area to play store and restaurant. They would play in “Bobos Babes World” when life seemed to be put on hold. While they played, I would write. At night, I would read them stories that I wrote starring … these three magical sisters called The Bobos Babes. The stories
had them looking forward to bedtime, and I promised them a new story every Friday.
What’s unique about the Bobos Babes Adventures is that they are comprised
of characters who represent real people in our life, including many family members.
When I was just writing for their entertainment, it was fun to add grandma,
grandpa, cousins, and other family and close friends as the characters. They would get so excited seeing who was going to be in the next story.
Right away, I added my parents as main characters: Leonard the Lion and Barbara the Butterfly. My father passed away in 2016, and it was fun to bring parts of his personality into his character. One of my illustrators, Brittany
Roberson, has a talent for turning my family members into animals.
You can really see the resemblance of these people
who we love so much in their characters.
The books have been somewhat therapeutic to me --- keeping my father’s spirit alive and having my daughters connect
with him although he is no longer with us. The Missing Egg’s main characters, Russell
and Diana, are named after a couple that have treated me like their daughter since I was in my twenties. They have always taken me “under their wings,” so-to-speak. They have been together since they have been in their twenties,
however, married later in life. Having them be swans, a species that mates for life, seemed more than fitting.
My hope is to have the Bobos Babes Adventure series keep the people that I love and dear so much alive forever.
It would be a dream come true to have these characters
become cherished figures in others’
hearts, spreading joy to more people that I could ever imagine,
all the while, keeping my loved ones alive forever
for my children, and their children, and their children…
and yours.
