My Review
Darkness Hides is a suspenseful mystery novel set in Florida. A Category 4 hurricane is building. People are dying. And in the midst of it all is Kate.
Kate is a boat safety instructor now, after an injury caused her to give up her job as a Fish and Wildlife Officer. But Kate can't seem to leave the job behind, and it's because of this that she finds herself entangled in the mystery that's unfolding on land. How are the deaths related to the death of her nephew? Who is out there watching...waiting...? And what will Kate do before everything comes crashing down around her?
I found this to be an intriguing read. The synopsis is what drew me in, piquing my curiosity and making me want to know what was going to happen with each turn of the page.
The book starts off a bit slow, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as it takes the time to flesh out the characters and introduce the readers to them, making them feel more real. You feel as though these are people you could know in real life. They're very well-written.
The mystery is definitely done well, as I didn't figure out who the "bad guy" was at all. Usually I'm pretty keen on these sorts of things, so kudos to the author for throwing me off my game.
The suspense of everything going on will keep you on your toes, and at times (if you're like me) make you feel a bit anxious.
Overall, a nicely done suspense novel with an interesting mystery for readers to unravel.
4 stars.
