My Review
Alicia Connected: The Big Gift is
a delightful middle-grade novel that will appeal to readers of all ages, even though it's aimed more for kids ages 8-13.
It's a story about a little girl named Alicia. Alicia's birthday is coming up, and her biggest hope is to receive a tablet as her gift. All of her friends seem to have tablets, so Alicia wants to join the club.
When she does get a tablet, her friends each convince her to add an app so she can be just like them. There's TullyTown, which her friend Ben plays; VideoMe, which her friend Cathy uploads videos to; and SocialBee, which her friend Megan is on (with 500 friends!)
But with this new technology, Alicia must learn that there are some big responsibilities that come along with being online. Her parents explain what she should and shouldn't do, but what happens when one of Alicia's friends breaks a rule and gets into trouble?
This is a wonderful, easy to read story. It's quick yet engaging, and young readers will enjoy this one. It's also a good way for parents to open up a discussion about safety and privacy on the internet.
I would definitely recommend this book to all readers.
4 stars!
