My Review
Dark Water Sacrifice is a horror novel that has, for me, what I call the "Mama Effect". Mama is a horror movie starring Jessica Chastain, and while the movie is really good, I found it more depressing and sad than scary or horrific. This book made me feel the same way. It was really good, but ultimately just made me sad rather than creeped out. But don't let that keep you from reading the book, because it is unsettling at times, and there are some genuinely creepy vibes that will make your skin crawl.
The story follows Adam, a man who must return to his family home after his father dies. The same family home where his young daughter died.
Hoping it will be a quick trip to tie everything up in a nice, neat bow (after being left the house and land in his father's will), Adam reluctantly leaves Chicago for Georgia.
But the past is about to catch up to Adam. The lake is waiting. It wants a sacrifice. And it will stop at nothing to drag Adam to its dark, inky depths.
I really enjoyed this story. Yes, it's sad. Yes, it's creepy. But it's well-written, and it honestly has that feeling of realness to it, where you can imagine yourself right there with the characters. It's easy to get lost within the pages, which is always something I enjoy.
A story that flows, with an engaging plot that will tug on those heartstrings just a little, Dark Water Sacrifice is the perfect book for a horror fan looking for something new to read.
4 stars!
