What would you do if someone acted out—for real— the kill scenes from your student-made horror film?
MY REVIEW
The Horror Film Killer is a fun little book that brings the horror movie genre to life (or death, in this case). As a fan of horror, I was curious to see how this book would play out. I wasn't disappointed. A little surprised, though. I had my suspicions, but I also didn't think I'd be right.
The story follows two high school teens as they make a horror film for their graduation project at their performing arts high school. Cassie and Donovan are co-directing a horror movie that plays homage to the genre. Featuring kills from other iconic films, the duo are excited to bring their vision to life. But when actual murders based on scenes from their film start happening, the two have to try and uncover the killer before it's too late.
As I mentioned above, this book was a fun read. It's easy to get sucked in, and I found myself entertained by the story. It was kind of like horror movie inception. The student film was about people making a horror film while paying homage to horror films. I loved it.
The reveal was a little surprising, although I did have my suspicions. It was nice to see I was on the right track.
With likeable characters, an engaging plot, and a quick, easy pace, The Horror Film Killer will delight fans of the genre. Definitely check it out.
4.5 stars!
