1. What was
your biggest challenge when writing your book?
My biggest challenge was coming up with a
title. I didn’t want the book to be perceived as a cookbook so the selection of
the title and subtitle were crucial. I held a brainstorming session with my
coaches and solicited feedback from various groups of friends before I
finalized it. This delayed work on the
cover a few weeks, but it was important to nail down.
2. In your
book, you reference a quote by Neale Donald Walsch, Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. How has that
shown up in your life?
I first heard that quote at a conference and
it sent chills up my spine. Life is about learning and growing, and growth is
uncomfortable. Other than writing my book, it showed up in a big way when I
walked away from my corporate career. I left a comfortable salary working in
the male dominated technology industry to spend more time learning from and
coaching women. It required me to unlearn a lot of habits, step into new
conversations, and be more forthcoming with my emotions. It was scary but
exhilarating at the same time. Uncomfortable situations and challenging times
teach us a lot. You just need to pay attention to the lessons.
3. How do you
balance your time?
I live by my calendar. I block off time for
high priority tasks to be sure that those get done and then I add the next tier
of items. Now that I’m not working in my corporate career anymore, my family
gets to be the biggest blocks.
4. You
mentioned a conversation about a chocolate fountain in your book. Can you
share more about the significance of that?
Everyone in my family loves chocolate. I don’t
hate it, but I prefer fruit based treats. My kids had seen a chocolate fountain
at an Easter brunch one time and ever since would ask if we could have one
whenever we planned any kind of brunch at home. So when we were planning our
breakfast meal for dinner, they asked for a chocolate fountain. Funny thing is,
when we were renting tables for the book launch party, the company also rented
chocolate fountains. There might be one in our future.
5.What’s your
favorite dessert?
Anything with lemon. My dad’s favorite was
lemon meringue pie so lemon filling always reminds me of him. And it’s just so
tasty! But the dulce de leche cookies I talk about in my book are a close
second!
