Author Q&A
What fantastical
fictional world would you want to live in (if any) given the chance?
Narnia has
always fascinated me. I love the idea of going through the back of a wardrobe
and finding myself in a wintry setting. Even though I hate to be cold, I love
snowy landscapes. My favourite classical painting of all time is The Magpie by Claude Monet. The first
time I saw it in Paris, I just gazed at it for about twenty minutes, feeling as
though I could step into the landscape at any moment. There is something
magical and romantic about a crisp winter’s day.
If you had to describe
yourself in three words, what would they be?
Scatty
Kind
Optimistic
What creature do you
consider your "spirit animal" to be?
Ooh,
good question. I couldn’t decide but then I found an online questionnaire which
tells you what your spirit animal would be. I took the questionnaire and it
came up with an Owl, which I rather
like. Apparently it means I have a deep connection with wisdom and intuitive
knowledge. Since my great grandmother – Eliza Dean – was known as a ‘seer’ and
I’ve had a fair few Woo-woo moments of my own, I’ll take that!
Do you have any advice
for aspiring writers?
Write
with joy, not with fear.
What book do you wish
you had written?
Almost
anything by Marian Keyes – but especially Rachel’s
Holiday or This Charming Man.
Her
writing is funny, touching, entertaining and peppered with wisdom.
What is your favorite
genre to read?
I’m
a big fan of autobiographies, especially if they’re amusing. It’s good to learn
how other people tackled their challenges in life. Recently, I read Eat, Pray,
Love by Elizabeth Gilbert – LOVED it.
Do you listen to music
when writing?
Yes!
I once read that classical music helps children to concentrate, so I started
playing Classic FM, and discovered it gives me a calming energy that helps me
write.
If
I listen to contemporary music, I find myself singing along which distracts me,
or worse – I might get up and dance, which isn’t really very productive, although
probably good for me.
Sometimes
I will play lively music to raise my energy and put me in a better frame of
mind to start writing.
Would you ever write
under a pseudonym?
I
already do! There was a male, German author using my real name – Tch! – plus my
surname has an unusual spelling, which has caused problems throughout my life. I
wanted something simpler to fit the romantic comedy genre. Rosie is my middle
name, and Dean was my grandmother’s maiden name.
How do you choose your
book covers?
I work
with a fabulous designer, called Joe Brown, who came up with my first cover for
‘Millie’s Game Plan’. We looked at books within the genre for our initial
steer, and then he came up with the layout. I really liked the clean lines and
colour scheme. Now, I just send him a few details about the characters and some
of the things featured in the story, and he does the rest.
Rosie writes romantic fiction with a sense of humour and, sometimes, a sense of the ridiculous; because we all know life and love aren't exactly how we'd like them to be.
She has won a Readers' Choice Award from Ancient City Romance Authors (part
of Romance Writers of America) and been a finalist in the 2017 Maggie Awards
for Excellence.
Before writing novels, Rosie wrote training courses and marketing copy for
the corporate world - a far cry from teaching Art and Pottery, where her
career began.
She lives on the Isle of Wight, within sight and sound of the sea, with her
partner and her dog.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
