Author Q&A
1.
What would you consider to be your Kryptonite as
an author?
2. Favorite childhood memory involving books?
Going to the library every summer for the summer
reading program. I would get the maximum number of books you could check out
each week, read them, and return them. Being turned loose in the library to get
my books each week was like freedom, and I loved it!
3. Have you ever met anyone famous?
When I was a senior in college, I did a semester
abroad in the UK. We visited Stratford-Upon-Avon and met several members of The
Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company. At the time, Joseph Fiennes and David
Tennant were actors in the company. They were so kind, and David Tennant was
hysterical. It is a very fond memory.
4. How do you select the
names of your characters?
Many times,
the names come to me with the opening scene of the book which is usual dialogue
and action filled. Otherwise, I use a book called Name Your Baby by
Larenna Rule, which has names with their origins and meanings, to find
character names.
5. Do you have any advice
for aspiring writers?
Listen to your
instincts and do not worry about what everyone else’s writing journey is. Yours
will be different and it should be. Embrace it!
6. What is your favorite
genre to read?
Perhaps not a
surprise, but historical romance and historical mysteries.
7. Do you listen to music when writing?
Yes, but usually only when I am brainstorming or
stuck in a scene. I have music playlists for characters, scenes, and books,
which helps me to get back on track if I am stuck.
8. If you could have a dinner party with 3 other authors, who
would they be?
Jane Austen
PD James
Daphne Du Maurier
9. If you had to pick a celebrity to cast for your main
character, who would it be?
I would love to cast Richard Armitage or Bertie
Carvel as Rory McKenna in Eloping with the Laird. Either one of them
would be fabulous as Rory! *swooning*
10. Would you ever write under a pseudonym?
I don’t think so, but never say never, right?
11. How do you choose your book covers?
All of my covers have
been created by my publishers. I especially love my latest cover for Eloping
with the Laird as it my first cover with both my hero and heroine together!
12. What’s one thing you’d like to say to your readers?
THANK YOU so much for your support and
encouragement! Your messages, emails, and comments on posts make such a
difference to me (and other writers), especially when I’ve had a day with a
poor review or difficulty with a manuscript. You make my day!

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
