Author Interview

Tell us about your book. Happenstance Farms A New Home is the first book in a series.  It’s about my daughter Savanna (an equestrian) and what I observed her going through when her trainer moved out of town, and she had to go to a new barn with new people.  At the time it seemed like her perfect pony world was turned upside down.  She was in a new barn with a new trainer, and she had to make new friends.   That is very overwhelming for an 8 ½ year old.

How many books have you written? Happenstance Farms A New Home is my first book in a series.  The second book is complete and will be going into illustration at the end of the month.  I hope to have that book out in May 2022. My goal is to publish three books in 2022.

Share your hopes and fears for your writing career.   I hope to make the Happenstance Farms books a go to series.   I already have the first 10 books roughly summarized.  My fear is that I may put a too much pressure on myself to publish three to four books a year.   I still work full time and have an active family.

Talk about book clubs. Maybe give some ideas for talking points they could use in connection to your book.   Great talking points for book clubs would be discussing the experience of change.  What feelings and emotions were involved during the change?  How did you identify with Savanna?   What is a change you experienced?

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book(s)? The most surprising thing I have learned is how much work is involved once the writing is complete.  Help is available to new authors.  Vicky Weber of “At Home Author” has been a huge help in navigating my writing and self-publishing journey.  I also was not aware of the publicity that is needed to launch a book.  “Forward Publicity” has been critical in marketing my book, I don’t know what I would have done without them!

What is writing schedule? The best time for me to write is early morning.  I like to review my work late in the evening.

Let your fans know where to find you on social media and what hashtags to use to talk about your book.  We are on Facebook and Instagram and I also have a website with activities for the kids and information on the characters.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
