These are dangerous times on Etherya’s Earth.... Slayer Princess Miranda, heir to the throne, has hated the Vampyres for a thousand years. Since the Awakening, she's fought to protect her people, choosing to be a warrior more than a royal. When a female Vampyre washes up on the shore of her compound’s riverbank, she seizes the moment to take the offensive. Sathan, King of the Vampyres, distraught at his sister’s disappearance and captivity, agrees to travel with Miranda to resect the Blade of Pestilence, also hoping to change his people’s state of endless war. Although the woman hates him due to the constant raids on her compound for the Slayers’ life-giving blood, he can’t help but admire the stubborn and strong princess. As their journey progresses, both begin to understand that they are aligned in their hatred of Crimeous, leader of the Deamons, as well as their hope for peace between the Slayers and Vampyres. Determined to fight their growing attraction, they forge a tentative truce. But old wounds run deep, and trust is scarce. Their faith in each other must remain strong, or all will be lost.... The Etherya's Earth series is best listened to in order so that the listener can enjoy the evolution of the characters. After all, the author loves a good twist and wants the listener to uncover them organically. However, listeners of romance, rest assured, each audiobook has its own featured hero/heroine and a happily ever after ending.

USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Hefner writes steamy paranormal and sci-fi romance as well as contemporary romance under the pen name Ayla Asher. Rebecca is a huge science dork who loves karaoke and she'll probably try to make a TikTok with you if she ever meets you in person.

Devon Wilcox has loved manipulating his voice to sound like different characters since he was a kid. Rebecca chose him for this series because of his deep, magnetic voice and his talent expressing multiple character emotions.

Rebecca’s favorite books (and their inspiration for Etherya’s Earth)

  1. Dark Lover by JR Ward. This is the book that started my love of paranormal romance. I read it years ago and always knew I would write a vampire book one day. When Miranda and Sathan appeared in my head, one of the first visions was Sathan biting her neck and the Vampyres of Etherya’s Earth were born.

  2. Valley of Silence by Nora Roberts. The entire Circle Trilogy is one of my favorites and I think it’s one of the best paranormal series ever written. Queen Nora does a fantastic job of carrying the story arc across three books while still giving us a satisfying love story in each novel. The ending of Valley of Silence definitely inspired Book 5 in the Etherya’s Earth series, The Impassioned Choice.

  3. Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas. Who doesn’t love a reformed rake? I fell in love with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent, in the Wallflower Series, as most romance readers did. He starts out as the villain and eventually reforms to be the hero in Book 3 of that series. Darkrip from The Darkness Within has a similar trajectory from villain to hero and I absolutely adore writing reformed anti-heroes.

  4. Beyond Control by Kit Rocha. The Beyond Series is one of my absolute favorites. Lexie is such a kick-ass heroine and reminds me so much of Miranda from The End of Hatred. They both fight misogyny and tyranny while having some hot, steamy times with sexy alpha males. What more can a reader ask for?

  5. When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn. This is hands-down my favorite book of the Bridgerton Series. It’s smokin’ hot and the man is in love with the woman from the beginning, which is a nice reversal. Latimus from The Elusive Sun is in love with Lila for centuries before he finally pushes his fear aside and truly believes he can bond with her. Of course, she’s done waiting and he worries it might be too late…but his attempts to win her love are so achingly sweet and poignant.

  6. Crave by Kat Kinney. The characters in this story have some great internal dialogue and it’s really funny! Although PNR can be dark, I love the lighter moments. Heden from The Impassioned Choice is hands-down the funniest character in Etherya’s Earth and I loved writing his funny quips and one-liners.

  7. Reckless at Heart by Zoe York. This book has older characters than you see in some romance novels and as an author in my 40s, books with more mature characters really call to me. Two Souls United has a 65 year-old heroine and a 43 year-old hero. Not only is it a reverse age gap romance but it showcases two later-in-life characters falling in love.

  8. Cherishing the Goddess by Lucy Eden. What a great enemies to lovers story! I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, as seen in The Dawn of Peace and The End of Hatred, and I devoured Lucy Eden’s book in one evening!

  9. Love, Again by April Berry. This book made me laugh out loud at the steamy scenes. It was so poignant how the hero and heroine communicated and reminded me of Heden and Sofia the first time they have sexy times in The Impassioned Choice.

  10. Bits and Pieces by Dawn Hosmer. This book has so many twists and turns, and I adore a twist! There are several in the Etherya’s Earth series, although some people get them earlier than others. Will you? Happy listening!
