Excerpt

Four mature friends, Bridgette, Serena, Emily and Marjory set off on a weekend jaunt to Sparadise, a luxurious spa retreat. The weather is hot and they decide to stop for refreshments by a river where wild-water swimmer, Serena, encourages them all to go for a swim.

‘Good God, you can’t be serious.’ Bridgette was shocked as she watched her friends undress. She glanced around nervously, noting the attention from other diners. A mother was shielding her child’s eyes with her hand, and the café staff had begun to giggle at the sight of the aged ladies removing their clothes.

‘Come on, birthday girl, live a little.’ Serena gave a lazy smile. ‘Don’t be afraid of coming out of your comfort zone. You’ll love it when you do.’

Bridgette bristled at Serena’s words. She had every intention of staying firmly within her comfort zone as, with horror, she saw Marjory’s ample breasts and bottom fly out of her greying bra and knickers, to be manipulated into a sagging ruched swimsuit. With clothes piled high on the table, Serena led the way and, holding hands, the trio tentatively stepped over the grass, steadying themselves as they negotiated the riverbank and tiptoed across the pebbles to the water.

The bikers gathered around and, with wolf-whistles and cheers, applauded the women as the water reached their knees. Serena’s Amazonian body was a sight to behold as she splashed about, her smooth dark skin a striking contrast against the white of her bikini. Subtle cosmetic surgery over the years had kept her tummy almost flat and cellulite non- existent.

Emily began to shiver and rubbed at her skinny arms and legs, threaded with blue veins, as she jumped up and down on the sandy riverbed, while Marjory, loving the attention from the onlookers, stuck out her chest and patted her perm.

‘Are you ready?’ Serena asked and took hold of their hands. ‘One, two, three... swim!’ She tugged hard and plunged them into the water. Submerged to their shoulders and gasping at the cold, within seconds, the women were swimming. Cheers resounded from the riverbank as the bikers whistled and clapped.

‘Hang on! Wait for me!’ a voice suddenly called out.

Everyone turned to see Bridgette, her short elf-like body running across the grass. With spontaneous applause, they took in the sight of her skirted swimsuit. The thin fabric of a generous sarong, knotted at her wide waist, billowed around her chubby legs. A rubber cap, red with colourful flowers, covered her hair and on her feet she wore a pair of latex bootees.

‘Bridgette!’ Serena yelled and, rising like a salmon leaping upstream, reached Bridgette’s side. ‘You made it.’ She laughed and leaned down, guiding her in.

‘I’m coming out of my comfort zone!’ Bridgette shrieked as she dipped into the water and, with furious strokes, began to paddle towards Emily and Marjory.

‘Hallelujah!’ they chorused as the friends joined hands and grinned.

Please try not to spam posts with the same comments over and over again. Authors like seeing thoughtful comments about their books, not the same old, "I like the cover" or "sounds good" comments. While that is nice, putting some real thought and effort in is appreciated. Thank you.
