One of Us is Lying meets Hitchcock in this novel from celebrated author of the #MurderTrending series, Gretchen McNeil.

I did my part, BFF. Now it's your turn.

Seventeen-year-old film noir fan Neve Lanier is a girl who just wants to be seen, but doesn't really fit in anywhere. When Neve is betrayed by her best friend, Yasmin, at the end of the school year, she heads off to a girl's empowerment camp feeling like no one will ever love her again. So when she grabs the attention of the beautiful, charismatic Diane, she falls right under her spell, and may accidentally promise to murder Diane's predatory step-brother, Javier, in exchange for Diane murdering Yasmin. But that was just a joke…right?

Wrong. When Yasmin turns up dead, Diane comes calling, attempting to blackmail Neve into murdering Javier. Stalling for time, Neve pretends to go along with Diane's plan until she can find a way out that doesn't involve homicide. But as she gets to know Javier - and falls for him - she realizes that everything Diane told her is a lie. Even worse, she discovers that Yasmin probably wasn't Diane's first victim. And unless Neve can stop her, she won't be the last.

In this twisted game of cat and mouse, the reader never quite knows who's telling the truth, who's playing games, and who is going to end up dead.

MY REVIEW
Dig Two Graves is a YA suspense thriller that will keep you on your toes.
The story follows Neve, a seventeen year old girl who is introverted and obsessed with noir films from the forties. She even dresses in the styles of that time period, which makes her an outcast at school. But she does have one friend: Yasmin.
One night, Yasmin drags Neve to a party they weren't invited to, and when Neve realizes it's because of a guy, she gets annoyed and gets Yasmin and herself thrown from the party. Yasmin is not happy, and because of this, she shows Neve her true colors, thus making Neve even more of a pariah at school.
But during the summer months before senior year, Neve attends GLAM camp and discovers she actually enjoys it. She also discovers she's good at acting, and she has a couple of new friends in Diane and Inara. But things take a turn for the worse on day one of senior year. Yasmin has been murdered and Neve is the prime suspect. But Neve knows the truth: the person she thought she knew at camp is the real killer, and now she's come to collect. Can Neve clear her name and prove Diane killer her ex-bestie, or will Neve go down in flames?
I really liked this book. It's only the second one I've read by the author (Ten being my first), but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the fun little cat and mouse game that was going on, and it was interesting to see how everything started to fall into place as the story progressed.
I think my two favorite characters were Neve and Inara. I liked them quite a bit, and I could relate to Neve in some ways. And Inara was fun because she always wore plaid. Who doesn't love plaid?
The plot is easy to get sucked into, and the pacing is well-done. You can't stop turning pages because you just have to know how it will all end.
I think the only negative thing I'd have to say, and it's not even really a bad thing, was the constant reference to older movies. It was established that Neve was a big film buff and liked movies from the past, but I found it a bit excessive at times, even though it did fit in with the overall plot. Maybe that's just me being a fusspot.
Overall, though, I thought this was a great little thriller, and I would recommend it to fans of the genre.
4 stars!
