Excerpt
Hello readers. I’m Hana Sheik, and my second Harlequin Romance/Mills and Boon True Love, Temptation in Istanbul is out in the UK today (yay!). I have a short and sweet excerpt for you today from the book, and I’m excited to share this one.
All of the story takes place in Istanbul, Turkey, and one of the things I loved about the research was getting to bookmark all these beautiful landmarks I want to visit one day. The nighttime scene in this excerpt ends on a rooftop restaurant with an Insta-worthy backdrop. I hope you enjoy reading this snippet as much as I loved writing it! 😊

“Let’s take a photo first.”

He took their cups again and placed them a safe distance away.

When he turned to her, it was to find Maryan much, much closer to him.

It was a repeat of yesterday’s scene in his kitchen. With a throat-clearing cough, he pulled out his phone and arranged his arm over the back of the cushions behind her. They were pressed together comfortably, nearly nose to nose, when he glanced over to her. He fell into the deep brown pools of her eyes, her black lashes fluttering lower, her gaze peeking out from under them shyly when she dropped her chin. Behind her the blue-black sky and the city glowing with lights. The shadowy domes and spotlighted minarets of the famed Blue Mosque and its külliye—its complex of buildings—hung in the backdrop of their seating. Pigeons that normally haunted the Sultanahmet Square below had retired for the night.

All these observations rushed into his mind, one after the other, until they were a blur because her luscious mouth hovered temptingly closer.

“Are we going to take the picture?”

Nodding dumbly, he held his phone up and touched his cheek to hers, his arm rising from the cushions to fold over her shoulders and curling her into his side where she fit snugly. They snapped low-light photos, their figures illuminated with the aid of his phone’s high-resolution front camera and the lanterns sharing the rooftop with them.

He could stay pressed against Maryan like this forever.

For as long as it took to understand what it was that he felt for her.

What had Aslihan called it? Love. It couldn’t be that.

“Zara will love seeing this photo,” she murmured near his ear, her cheek still warming his.

Thinking of his daughter made him think of taking Maryan home. Home? Since when had he gotten to thinking of it as her home as well?

“Ready to go?” He lurched to his feet and grasped her hand. Pulling her up against him, their bodies aligning briefly, he thought of kissing her again. Leading her away from their secluded place to the restaurant’s exit, he passed Erkin and Aslihan smoking shisha at their table.

Once they were alone again, he hurried to whisk Maryan to his car.

He had no driver today. It’d be just the two of them on their ride home.

 Home.

The word settled deep in his heart, comfortably, naturally.

 He was taking her home.
