My Review
Mickey on the Move: Farming is a wonderful children's book that follows Mickey, a little boy who is deaf, and his mom as they spend time on their farm, feeding chickens, tending to fruits and vegetables, etc. Mickey loves being outside and doing other fun kid things, but Mickey can't fully enjoy the outdoors, especially if it's raining, because of his cochlear implants (discussed in the first book, Mickey on the Move). Mickey soon discovers there are special cochlear implants that are waterproof/water resistant, and now he can jump in puddles, go swimming, and enjoy farming with his parents no matter the weather. How fun!
This is a lovely story, and it introduces young readers to someone who may not be able to hear the same way they do (and may look different because of it), but is still just a normal kid who loves to have fun. It's a good way for parents to explain disabilities and handicaps to their children, and to show them that even though some people may be different, there's no reason they can't lead normal, happy lives as well.
I really liked this book, and I think it will appeal to both parents and young readers alike.
5 stars!
