MY REVIEW
Ninja Nickels and the Problem with Pickles is a cute children's story with a good message.
Nickles (yes, it's spelled differently than on the cover) is a dog who sneaks around his house like a ninja at night when his family is asleep in their beds. One night, Nickles decides to take a jar of pickles to snack on. But the jar slips and shatters on the floor, making a mess. Nickles hides as Lincoln and his mom appear in the kitchen, and Lincoln starts to take the blame, even though he's not at fault. Will Nickles come to his rescue and admit his wrong?
This is a cute story. I think kids will find it entertaining and funny, and parents will like the message it instills, which is to take responsibility for your actions and do what is right. Spill some milk on the table? Admit to it and clean it up. Accidentally break a jar of pickles? Tell an adult and get help cleaning it up. It's a good way for kids to learn that accidents do happen, and it's okay, but don't try to hide it or lie about it. Ask for help and make things right.
The rhyming scheme is delightful and easy to read. The illustrations are fun and bring the story to life. And kids will enjoy reading about Ninja Nickels and his hijinks.
5 stars!
