The Wrong Side of Murder is another wonderful cozy mystery by
author Lauren Carr. It has all the elements that draw me in - an intelligent
female lead, an equally smart boyfriend who partners to help her, a
complicated plot where clues are slowly revealed, people who aren't what
they seem to be, comedic moments to balance the darker ones, and several
quirky pets full of personality.
It's a wonderful book to escape into at the end of the day. And get ready to
read into the wee hours as, if you're like me, you won't be able to stop
reading until the mystery is revealed. - Marilyn R. Wilson, Olio by Marilyn

Book Description:
Nikki Bryant’s Next Case Takes Her to the Wrong Side of Murder
One spring morning, Jodi Gibbons got up and went to school as she did every
day. Her young life went sideways though when the police found that her mother
had been brutally killed during the night.
Twenty years later, many in Pine Grove believe Jodi got away with murder.
After all, how could she have possibly slept through her mother’s violent
death in the very next room?
After decades of silence, Jodi accepts
investigative journalist Nikki Bryant’s invitation to tell her side of the
story. However, before the interview can take place, someone silences Jodi
permanently.
Now it is up to Nikki Bryant and her friends to uncover the secret that Jodi
Gibbons has been protecting—a secret someone believes it is worth killing to
keep from being revealed.

My Review
The Wrong Side of Murder is the second book in the Nikki Bryant Cozy Mystery series, and this one is just as good as the first one. It's a book that will suck you in and keep you guessing until the very end.
In this one, Nikki is celebrating a huge win for herself and the news station. She and her boyfriend Ryan decide to go to The Tap House, a bar on the "wrong side" of town, and there they discover Jodi Gibbons, a woman they went to school with who was accused of murdering her mother.
Twenty years ago, Reba Gibbons was found stabbed more than twenty times in her bed, while Jodi slept just mere feet away in her own room. And even though Jodi was never officially convicted or arrested for the crime, everyone in town believes she did it. Except Nikki.
Nikki reaches out to Jodi and convinces her to tell her side of the story. What really happened? What secrets does Jodi have that could help solve her mother's murder?
Unfortunately for Nikki, Jodi is murdered the night before she's set to tell all. Now Nikki has two murders to solve: the mother and the daughter. Was it the same killer, or was it someone different for each murder? Nikki plans to find out.
With Ryan and her faithful sidekick, Elmo the boxer dog, Nikki starts digging, hoping she can uncover the truth before it's too late.
I really enjoyed this one. I loved the first Nikki Bryant Cozy Mystery, so I was excited to read book two. It definitely doesn't disappoint. There's a lot going on, with subtle clues, red herrings, and of course, a lot of mystery with a sprinkling of romance thrown in for good measure.
Nikki is a great character, and she's the type of person I know I would want to be friends with. She's calm and collected, she's smart, she hates heels, and she has a dog. What's not to like?
The plot is engaging and keeps you guessing. The mystery is definitely intriguing, especially since there's both a twenty-year-old cold case and a recent murder being investigated, and both involve the same family.
I had my moments where I was like, well, I think it's this person, but then I started to second guess myself. I was a little surprised by how it all tied together in the end, though. Definitely a fun little cozy mystery.
If you're a fan of the genre, definitely give this series a go.
4.5 stars!
