My Review
In the Nick of Time Too is the sequel to In the Nick of Time. In this story, Nick and Cooper are now best friends. They're as close as brothers, and they enjoy hanging out together whenever they can. It's Christmas Eve, and Cooper wants to spend the night at Nick's house. His parents agree to let him stay (as do Nick's), and Cooper gets to do what he loves most: spend time with his best friend. But Cooper gets more than he expected when Nick's family invites the neighborhood over for a party, and they have loads of cookies. But what happens when bedtime comes and Cooper falls asleep on the couch?
This was a sweet story. It showcases not only the power of friendship, but it has a good message. While most kids tend not to be judgmental or care about things like looks, this book does offer a gentle reminder that kindness and being nice is all that matters to Santa. Not skin color. Not height or weight. Not gender. None of that is important in the grand scheme of things. Just be a good, kind, decent person, and you'll stay off of the "naughty" list. It's also a good way to introduce other holiday celebrations to young readers and have a discussion about those. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, and it's a good way to explain to kids just how different (yet still the same) everyone can be. .
The illustrations were lovely and bright, and they really brought the story to life. Definitely a wonderful holiday story for readers of all ages.
5 stars!
