Opinions are 100% my own.
Sun Moon is a beautiful film that showcases how two people from different cultural backgrounds can find love, even when they're not looking.
The movie follows Kelsey, a woman dealing with heartbreak. Her fiancé left her at the altar, claiming the Lord spoke to him. But, in fact, he decided to leave her for her old college roommate. Ouch.
Struggling to come to terms with everything, Kelsey decides to take a leap of faith and go to Taiwan to teach English to students at an academy there. She leaves behind her sister and her dying mom, ready to tackle her new adventure. But acclimating to a new culture, if only for a short amount of time (a semester), isn't as easy as Kelsey thought it would be.
The students are difficult at times. The language barrier makes communication tough. And Kelsey's apartment has roaches. Yuck.
When Kelsey reaches out for help from another teacher named Horace, a tentative friendship is born. But will romance bloom, or will their differences keep them apart?
I wasn't quite sure how I would feel about this movie at first. I'll admit, I wasn't too keen on it until it got to a certain point. Something clicked after one scene, and then I was fully invested. I thought this was a cute film, and I loved the relationship forming between Kelsey and Horace. But, of course, there is also tragedy and hardship, which puts their romance in jeopardy. And there was a moment where I wasn't sure they would get their happily ever after.
I also enjoyed the banter between Kelsey and the students. Benny was kind of silly. Trisha was a tough one to deal with (until something is revealed). And Rachel stole the show.
I went into this film not knowing much about Taiwan, but after seeing the movie, I feel like Taiwan would be an intriguing place to visit.
If you're looking for a sweet faith-based romance, definitely check out Sun Moon on Pure Flix today!
