The New Husband by Brian R. O`Rourke - Book Tour & Review

Book Blurb

Mary always dreamed of a perfect husband. Now she’s got one.

When Mary's husband Brent returns from a month-long wellness retreat, he seems like a totally different person.

Before he went away, Brent was anxious, depressed, and in danger of losing his job.

Now, he’s decisive, optimistic, and full of energy. He also has big plans to start his own business ... big plans which require a lot of capital.

As Mary spends more time around her husband, she begins to realise just how much he's changed in every little way. Is the man she’s living with really the same person she married?

And who is the guy in the grey SUV who keeps following her? Does he know something sinister about her husband?

Little by little, Mary realizes Brent has been hiding a dark secret about what really happened on that wellness retreat.

And as she draws closer to the horrifying truth, she finds herself trapped in a nightmare beyond her wildest imaginings.

The New Husband is a stunning psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

My Review
The New Husband is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. It's one of those books where you think you have any idea of what's going on, but with each new event that happens, you start to second guess yourself until you're wondering if you're ever going to figure out the truth. It's an thrilling read that you won't want to put down.
The story follows Mary and Brent, a couple whose marriage is starting to unravel. Brent is offered the chance to go on a 30-day wellness retreat to see if that helps. But when Brent returns, there's something different about him. Mary doesn't really think anything of it at first, but the more time they spend together (or apart, technically), the more Mary realizes her husband might not be the same man she married.
Anxious to figure out why Brent is so different, Mary starts to dig. What she uncovers might just kill her.
I really enjoyed this book. I found myself immediately intrigued and sucked in, curious to see what would be revealed about the retreat Brent went on. My mind had multiple different scenarios going at once as I tried to figure out which one could be the most likely. It's definitely one of those thrillers that doesn't give too much away and will make you wonder.
I did find Mary to be a bit annoying at times, though. She's not a bad character, but she irritated me with her actions/thoughts on occasion. And Brent just comes across as this frat bro-esque douchebag once he returns from the retreat. He's secretive and smug, and all he seems to care about is sex and spending money. He's kinda gross. I think my favorite character, though, was the neighbor, Mrs. Ryers. Never underestimate a little old lady.
If you're looking for a well-written, suspenseful new thriller to read, check out The New Husband.
4.5 stars!
