Along the way, they make a new friend, a hawksbill sea turtle named Howie. Howie is a kind sea turtle who gives the young fish the guidance they need to get where they’re going and stay safe. The three quickly become fast friends and learn that they can trust one another through thick and thin. Howie protects the little fish from predators, and in return they help keep the turtle safe from the dangers of human litter such as plastic bags. Join Sammy, Scarlett, and new friend Howie as their epic journey continues through the magnificent Florida Keys.

My Review
Sammy & Scarlett's Coral Reef Adventure is a beautifully illustrated children's book that follows two fish on their journey to the barrier reef in the Florida Keys. Along the way, they meet up with a sea turtle named Howie, who guards Sammy and Scarlett, keeping them safe while they travel to the reef. Howie also teaches them about the things they see, and how to keep safe from sharks, barracuda, and other dangers once they arrive at the reef. But even with the dangers that lurk, there is so much beauty to behold.
This is a lovely children's book with an important message. Not only does it have a fun little adventure that young readers will enjoy, it also teaches children that it's important to keep the oceans free from litter, and to protect the coral reefs. Sea turtles will eat plastic bags, thinking they are jellyfish, and that will harm them. Other types of litter is also bad not only for turtles, but for all sea creatures.
I do think the story may be a little wordy (at times) for really young readers (ages 3-5 perhaps), but they can still enjoy the story by having a parent or guardian read it to them. The colorful illustrations will also make the story a delightful one to keep coming back to. It's visually stunning.
Overall, a really good children's book with a fun, fishy adventure and an important message about protecting the ocean.
5 stars!
